American Idol 7 – Top 10 Announced

American Idol 7 Top 10 2008

American Idol has a Top 10!  Do you agree with it?  Who should still be here?  Who should have gone home???

Here’s who is left:

  • Ramiele Malubay
  • Jason Castro
  • Brooke White
  • Chikezie
  • David Archuleta
  • Michael Johns
  • Carly Smithson
  • David Cook
  • Kristy Lee Cook
  • Syesha Mercado

I like this list for the most part but I have to admit that I am shocked that Kristy Lee is still around… I also think Michael Johns needs to step it up because I’m beginning to forget why I liked him.  He just needs to find the right song, I think.

David archuleta is already super famous and popular. Videos shows that somebody is stalking him like a paparrazzi.. He’s stormed already and its not safe. He’s destined for hollywood superstar. He’s overcute to look at and to watch.

  2. A'kyra says:

Shocked is not the word!! Baffled! Why is Kristy still around?? Why was Carly in the bottom 3?? This is nuts!! And now the polls say that David Cook is projected to win! What a nutty season! Oh well at least Amanda won’t be under the AI contract and can get a good deal.

  3. ozzy says:

There is no way that Kristy was NOT the bottom vote getter last night (and probably on previous nights) Every online poll and tracking site had her dead last. Just AI manipulating the tour buses as usual. And there is also NO WAY that Carly was bottom 3. Just giving her fan base a little shocker to boost her up in the overall popularity ratings since she’s been running in the middle of the pack and they want her closer to the top, probably want her for final 2 with David A. I give this show no credibility in counting the actual votes…not since season 1.

  4. A'kyra says:

Ozzy – I agree. You are so right. There is absolutely no way Carly should have been anywhere near the bottom 3. The AI voting system has been jacked up since season 2 as you pointed out.

  5. Cherie says:

Ozzy – exactly. Carly would never have landed in the bottom. I’m sorry to see Amanda go as well. I knew she probably wouldn’t have won, but she was so unique that she would have added a great element to the show.

    UNLIKE KRISTY!

  6. Wow. Okay, that is messed up. I mean, I was not particularly attached to Amanda Overmyer, but I thought she was better than Kristy Lee Cook. What the heck is that all about? Kristy has consistently been not great at all.
And I really don’t see how Carly could be in the bottom.
Overall, though I was pretty happy with this year’s top ten. Although, I’m not really a fan of Michael Johns. He has no personality and I don’t think he’s done particularly well. I mean, he’s been okay. He deserve to be in the top 10, but I just don’t know how much longer I can take him.

  7. wannatech says:

I don’t understand all those people saying Amanda Overmyer is a better singer than Kristy Lee Cook obviously we have not been watching the same show and obviously America does not agree with you. Every time you hear Amanda you’re under the impression that she’s singing the exact same song and she doesn’t even do it right all the time. Kristy Lee Cook has great vocals whether you like her or not the same cannot be said about Amanda Overmyer, she’s just overated, the judges liked her personality that’s why they put her in the top 24 while they put Kristy there in spite of the fact that they didn’t like her being “a good girl”.

  8. Kristen King says:

I think Kristy should have gone home two weeks ago and David Hernandez should have made the Top 10, personally. I would have liked to see Amanda in there, but I don’t think she would have liked the Idols tour at ALL so I guess it’s better this way. But I’m sad that my top 5 guys prediction was wrong!

  9. Toti says:

The most underrated in the top 10 is Ramiele. She has very good vocals and has the widest pitch range among the top 10. She is the most versatile since she can do both ballads and fast songs (twice already). The three judges are putting up double standards. Night after night, Ramiele produces good vocals and continuing song style variety. But instead of appreciating these, the judges talk about issues like “confidence”, “not jumping up and down” about her performance, or “her not yet achieving her full potential yet”. This is because they cannot seem to find anything terribly wrong with her so they settle for questionable, non-specific, very general, and non-verifiable criticisms. Yet, the judges tolerate the bad vocals of Brook and Jason, the very boring performances of Kristy Lee Cook and Jason, the lack of veratility of Amanda and Carly (they both just belt and shout – it is very easy to do that all the time). Even David Cook is not really exceptional – he has bad vocals and his stunts are things a professional (as he is already one) is expected to do (microphone, guitar, acting like a star). Also, the pros such as Carly and David Cook have an inherent advantage of professional experience, which is unfair to the rest. Yet, remember that Carly’s company invested $ 2.0 million to package her and went belly-up for that – showing that she is not really marketable. To have a marketable superstar, you need a fresh, young face (Ramiele , David Archuleta, Jason qualify here), good vocal ability (Ramiele, David Archuleta, Chikeze, Michael, Carly, and Syesha qualify here), versatility (Ramiele, David Archuleta, Michael and Syesha qualify here), and charisma (Ramiele, David Archuleta, David Cook, Michael, Syesha, Brook, and Jason qualify here). Given these, those who will end up as marketable superstars with all the qualifications are only Ramiele and David Archuleta. Given that they normally are the highest vote-getters each round (Ramiele has been several times and so has David Archuleta), they should end up as the top two. The American public is not an idiot. They see through the biases, favorites, and double standards of Simon, Randy, and Paula. Thus, though the favorites of these judges include Carly and Brooke, the public will never buy these. Besides, no one among the judges is a great superstar singer. So, how qualified are they to influence the public? American idol should have gotten the likes of Barabara Streisand, James Ingram, and Leah Salonga (Asian-American star singer of Miss Saigon musical and Tony Ward winner). This kind of line-up would have eliminated the ethnicity bias and given the show really high vocal, performance, versatility, and public acceptability standards. The reason why the voting is very different from the judges’ views is because the judges either have personal biases/favorites (in the case of Simon), are mediciocre singers (in the case of Paula), not singers at all, or have music style biases (in the case of Randy). It is good America as a whole is not as incompetent as the judges are.

  10. Mary says:

Right on the mark on Ramiele…she’s really the best along with David A…

  11. nida says:

i love ramiele, very professional attitude with quality voice and versatile performance

  12. A'kyra says:

Toti – I must say I enjoyed reading your comment. You are right on on everything you said. I would also like to add that sometimes the voting gets messed up because, like we saw last season with Sanjaya, people sometimes vote for the wrong reasons making it a popularity contest rather than about singing. I think it’s a shame that some bone-heads want to ruin the show b/c they don’t like it or whatever reason they concoct to sway the votes.
You are right about the judges but I think AI chose them for the “drama” of it all.

  13. shonac says:

i think ppl are giving excuses for MJohns to stay.

Carly didn’t really pick the right songs in the beginning and IMO, actually still hasn’t done that, BUT she still had killer vocals on her songs except for Blackbird.

Michael Johns is not a very good singer if he can’t give the song his own interpretation, style and good vocals.

  14. Baptiste says:

I’m really really disappointed Amanda was voted off last night when Kristy has been ready to go home from the start… I’m sick of her useless performances… And I totally agree with you on Michael Johns !! I really liked him when he auditionned but now he’s starting to annoy me almost as much as Kristy does !

  15. I would like to know how David Cook has an “unfair advantage” above the other contestants? He is simply older, and been making music longer… playing in local bands that go nowhere…? How is that an advantage… ? I’d say he worked HARDER than most, if anything….

  16. BlakeL&DavidA says:

i don’t really care who is in it as long as DAVDI ARCHULETA IS THERE! YAY i can see him on tour now.

but, did you now that they are doing a wild card pick for the tour

  17. clem says:

hey guys… please get rid of those already booted out in the AI. can you just concentrate on the remaining best of AI top 10… I’LL GO FOR RAMIELE MALUBAY, A TRUE SINGER AND TOP PERFORMER WITH A TOP VOICE CALIBER… VERY TALENTED SMALL BEAUTIFUL CUTE LADY. YOU CAN DO IT RAMIELE… GO…GO…GO…SHOW THEM THAT YOU ARE THE BEST OF THE BEST…

  18. Toti – What? Okay, first, I disagree that Ramiele always has good vocals. However, this could just be a question of preference. Secondly, what you referred to as the judges basically picking on her by talking about her “confidence”, “not jumping up and down” about her performance, or “her not yet achieving her full potential yet”. I have noticed those things, and have been disappointed by Ramiele for it. It’s not just the judges picking on her because, it is very obvious to the audience as well. And are you saying those elements aren’t important?

And I have found Brooke’s performances to be (for the most part) charming and full of personality, and and it makes way for some vocal errors (a tiny bit). Whereas, I feel Ramiele lacks personality. Yeah, her hair looks good, but other than that, there isn’t really much personality and her performances are dull. And I don’t find Jason’s vocals to be so bad. And to me, his performances aren’t dull, as you said. They are actually sweet and full of emotion, with the exception of last week. Where he was criticized. Now I completely agree with what you said about Kristy since her performances are dull and he vocals are pretty bad. However, it’s not as if the judges are ignoring that. I mean, Simon has even said that Kristy was forgettable. So, no, the judges don’t tolerate Kristy. And I think they can give credit when it’s due. If they see someone who has great personality, but had a few pitch problems, I’m sure they’re willing to forgive them bit. But in Ramiele’s case, there isn’t much personality there and I think part of it is beause she dosn’t have much confidence.

I agree with you that Amanda lacked versatility, but I simply can’t say anything bad, in that respect, about Carly. She has the ability to really excel in her own field. and I think that if someone can do that, versatility should not be something that people criticize. Her lack of personality is a problem for me, though. Let us also not forget that there haven’t been many chances to be versatile due to the fact that two weeks in a row were basically the same thing. I wouldn’t put down Jennifer Hudson just because she wasn’t versatile enough.
Now, I started off disliking David Cook, but he has simply blown me out of the water. He’s got tremendous talent and great vocals week after week.
But, one thing that really annoys me is that people can talk about all the double standards, but what about their double standards? No one complained that Melinda Doolittle was a backup singer and therefore, had LOTS of experience. Or that Jordin Sparks auditioned twice and was on Arizona Idol. How come it’s okay for them, but for these guys everyone is going buck wild? Those are double standards.

And Toti, you also said this: “Besides, no one among the judges is a great superstar singer. So, how qualified are they to influence the public?” Are you kidding me??? Why do you think Simon Cowell is so rich? He is a major producer and Randy Jackson has worked with some of the biggest singers ever including Mariah Carey and Celine Dion. And Paula used to be pretty popular, and being a singer I think she knows what she’s talking about (sometimes, lol). I just don’t see how you could seriously make that statement.
You also spoke about ethnicity biases, but this year has had the most ethnic diversity Idols ever had. We’ve had a Philippino, 2 African Americans, someone who is half Colombian, half Honduran, an Irish girl and an Australian. you can’t get more diverse than that, lol. :)

  19. David Beane says:

Honestly jason castro is terrible in both singing and being able to talk in front of the camera(never to be an idol) amanda was overbearing as far as her sining went way to raspy always screaming instead of singing to make up for her inabillity to sing, shikezie is nothing more than another reuben studdard who again will never be an idol the rest i believe belong and will show their talents more in the weeks to come.

  20. Toti says:

    Hi Lauren (lolo),

You are entitled to your opinion as I am to mine. There is no point in arguing. Fortunately for me, the American public supports my opinion since Ramiele has consistently been among the top in the voting, despite the ridiculously consistent way the judges have underrated her.

    Cheers,

    Toti

  21. Mary says:

Totally agree with you, Toti…Ramiele has the voice and personality to make it. Brooke and Jason are quite mediocre…I could sing better….

  22. pat says:

    go david a!….great vocals, btw!

  23. glimpses says:

David Cook, like all other on the top 10 idols have had thier experience on stage and in singing prior to idol, except Ramiele Malubay, according to what i’ve read on thier profiles and during interviews. This is why maybe Ramiele, though gifted with incredible voice… is underrated.. maybe because she lacks of confidence and i totally agree Randy when he said that. One thing, I’ve learned about Ramiele she has not yet mastered her art of romancing the camera.. lol . so she will get all the benifits she can take with her good looks. All these guys on top 10 had thier formal music training except for Ramiele. The song in my life was felt so boring because of her stage performance… and the overly emoted song makes her dull on stage. She just need to trust her and feel her powerful voice. She has that voice worth for an idol, but she needs more practice to master her craft and take advantage of the talent she have.

  24. sol says:

I still believe the power of my idol Ramiele Malubay, she belong in final stage ( Top 10 ), and I hope and I pray, more fantastic songs to get the attention of every Americans to choose her as one of the best American idol. . . . . . . . all races please vote for Ramiele Malubay.
