American Idol 7 Top 10 - David Archuleta

by Jeanne on March 25th, 2008

David Archuleta American Idol 7 Top 10

David Archuleta was born in 1990 and is singing “You’re The Voice” and I think it was a bad song choice.  Randy said it was a strange song choice but that he sang it very well.  Paula said she was trying to figure out the song choice but that he could sing the phone book and we’d fall in love with him.  Simon said he didn’t like the performance at all and found it reminiscent of a theme park performance.  He also suggested that someone, other than David, had chosen the song for him.

I think this performance was better than the judges gave him credit for.. :*( I liked it.

i kinda think simon was hinting at David’s father when he made that last comment….

But I still he think he sang it well. I voted like >500 times for him tonight.

He sang very well. Because its not an american song doesn’t mean it wasn’t good…he sang it very very well! He is a talent but David Cooke is looking very very good now with his song choices…

Kal- I’m inclined to agree with you. David did indeed sing well, it’s just no one really knew the song he sang which can be a turn off in a way.
I think he did make a bad song choice, not that the song was bad, but it seems the judges and voters relate better when they know the song. Again, it does not take away from the fact that the boy can sing, he just needs to pick the right song and I too think that Simon was refering to David’s father with that comment! He is kind of right…I don’t think David picked that song all by himself either.

Even funnier, did anyone catch when Ryan asked him about his prom date being in the studio and when the camera cut to her, the girls stopped screaming! LOL…they were all so jealous….that was funny…poor girl probably got mean looks the rest of the night!

I didn’t really think this was one of his better performances. It felt forced and just kind of strange, not like him at all. I agree that someone else must have selected the song.

First of all, none of his tween fanbase would have known most of the songs he’s sung so far so what does it matter? My 12yr old loved the song and has never heard it before…it’s a nice song and he sung it very well. And I see Disney all over this kid…in a good way.

OZZY! OMG! I was thinking the same thing! He would be great for Disney! He has an amazing voice and personally I think he is better than the kids on High School Musical! (I probably will get crucified for saying that) but its true, he is an awesome candidate for that…he should even be in the next HSM movie :)

My first reaction was that Simon was referring to David’s father as the person who came up with this somewhat strange song. But here’s an interesting twist: in 1990, this song was done by Jeff Pescetto on a 1990 album River Of Love. David Foster produced, arranged or appeared with Pescetto on that song. David Foster, of course, is the pianist who appeared with Catherine McPhee a couple weeks ago. Did he give Archuleta the idea?

David Archuleta always sounds the same on every song he sings. I cannot see any “star quality” in him that would appeal to a wide age range of an audience. He is more like Disney talent, in a sickening kind of way. The kind that caters to the dorky kids musical tastes. On the upside, if David wins, his controlling stage daddy can promote himself to business manager……

Grant - LOL…I’m afraid you’re right about his dad, and I said the same thing about him being perfect for Disney. I think all his songs sound the same as well. Doesn’t take away from the fact that he can sing though. It’s funny that he is predicted to win but David Cook is predicted to be more successful. I would buy David Cook’s CD, not Archuletta’s though.

A’kyra, I agree that David Archuleta can sing, but I’m not sure he is enough of his own person that could break out of his highly conditioned formula of song delivery and bring down the house with something raw & gutsy. I’d also buy David Cook’s cd, he really struck an emotional connection with his performance of “Hello”, but I would never consider buying a David Archuleta cd. There is better music out there on the market to fall asleep to.

[…] Top 10 - David sang “You’re the Voice,” a song that I really like but wasn’t particularly fond of as a choice for him.  Simon went so far as to suggest that David did not pick the song himself. […]
