American Idol 7 Top 10 – David Cook

David Cook American Idol Top 10

David Cook was born in 1982 and he is singing “Billie Jean” and it’s a super different arrangement. WOW! I really liked it a lot. David has grown on me in a crazy way. Randy said he is the most original, bold contestant they’ve ever had. Paula said he is smart, brave and willing to stretch the boundaries and thinks he is brilliant. Simon said it was brave and amazing.

  2. A'kyra says:

    BEST PERFORMANCE OF THE NIGHT!!!!
He did an amazing job with this. I was nervous at first when they announced what he was singing but boy did he rock that Shhhhhhhhhhhhh

  3. Dirty Dan says:

Third week in a row that he’s covered an obscure cover. His version of “Billie Jean” is actually Chris Cornell’s (Soundgarden / Audioslave) acoustic version of Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean”.

My cable cut out so I missed Ryan introduce David Cook. When it came back in and I heard Billie Jean, my first thought, being a huge Soundgarden fan was “Wow, he’s ripping off Chris Cornell. I hope they at least credit him”. Fortunately, they did. Great performance though. David Cook rocks!

  5. Bouffe says:

Ryan was in the crowd for David’s introduction. Right after the pre-performance package, Ryan mentions that the version David is doing is from Chris Cornell.

  6. A'kyra says:

Dirty Dan – they did mention Chris Cornell…maybe you missed that part.
Thanks for the vid though ;-)
    AND…it was still awesome!

  7. ozzy says:

David has a real knack for picking good altered versions to old redundant songs. But he took all the credit for his “originality” until that band kicked up a fuss with Eleanor Rigby. And I do believe he is arrogant enough to have continued to do this if that hadn’t happened. Ryan’s credit to Chris Cornell was very difficult to pick up at the beginning and all of the judges went on to praise his originality and risk taking without mentioning Chris Cornell. He sang that song note for note…exactly the same as the original artist did it, as he has done for all the others.

Either way, he does have a great voice and will do well with songs that are written for him. I just wish he’d tone down the arrogance a bit.

  8. Tiffany says:

I didn’t think he was arrogant and I heard the “Chris Cornell” intro right away.

    I thought he was BRILLIANTLL

  9. Andy says:

Have you heard Chris Cornell, this guy’s voice blows him away. Wait until he records something after he wins this Idol stuff………..

  10. vanessa says:

i think david cook is amazing and sexy too! His performance last night blew me away! I love the song billie jean and even though i have never heard of chris cornell i thought it was a great version of the song. In response to a comment i read earlier i dont think david is arrogant at all. Instead of choosing a song from his birth year and just singing it like the original artist, he took the newer updated version of the song and sang the hell out of it! And he did an amazing job! Which is why i think the judges gave him credit for being original and a risk taker. I look forward to watching david perform every week because i know i am always going to be entertained. Keep up the good work david!

  16. Grant Gilmore says:

David Cook really moved me when he performed “Hello”. He brought new life to a song that never appealed to me, before I heard his rendition of it.

  17. Fieds says:

I agree with the judges last nite… He can do better than that… We all know… ~_~

  18. dajudge says:

Can he at least comb his hair and quit looking like he just got out of bed. Nausiating.
