American Idol 7 Top 10 Guys - Live Blogging

by Jeanne on February 26th, 2008

Ryan Seacrest introduced the Top 10 guys (Luke Menard, why???).  I love Paula’s hair and makeup tonight.  Sorry it’s off-topic, I had to add that :)

imageAlso, don’t forget to sign up for Idol Stalker’s Fun Office Pool!

It’s all for fun and, if you guess correctly week after week, you can definitely earn some bragging rights.  I will also try to participate in the week pool which you can join by clicking here

What you will be doing is guessing which guy (and after tomorrow night, which girl) will be sent home this week.

Okay, on with the performances!

Michael Johns Week 2

Michael Johns talks about how tennis plays a big part in his life and how it inspires him and allows him to take his mind off stress.  He sang “Go Your Own Way.”  It’s not great to me, sorry.  It sounds too much like a pitchy copycat version - the key was a bit too high and the band was loud.  Randy liked it, Paula said he is “consistent” and has the crowd going, Simon said it was “okay” but was his weakest performance to date.  He also said it was a “weak” song choice.

more after the jump!

Jason Castro Week 2

Jason Castro talked a lot about how he hates interviews and how the American Idol  process has a lot of non-singing components that he wasn’t expecting.  He sang “I Just Want to Be Your Everything” and it was decent.  I liked that he used his guitar!!!  Randy said that with the guitar it’s cool but without it, the vocals weren’t that great.  Paula said that it wasn’t as bad as Randy said.  Simon said he thought the song was horrible and that the vocals were very weak.

luke menard week 2

Luke Menard talked about his acappella group “Chapter Six” that has allowed him to travel.  He sang “Killer Queen” and, well, it was what I expected.  It wasn’t terrible, though.  Randy said Luke picked a really tough song and that it was pretty good.  Paula said he picked the perfect song.  Simon said he thinks Luke made a mistake because he doesn’t compare to the original singer (Freddie Mercury).  OUCH!!!!!

Robbie Carrico Week 2

Robbie Carrico talked about the fact that he drag races cars.  He said that it’s “amazing” and “a rush” and recommends trying it safely.  He sang “Hot Blooded” and, while I am a Robbie supporter, I have to say that I wasn’t really feeling this performance.  With all the 1970s rock songs out there, why did he pick this???  Ugh.  Randy said that it didn’t quite work for him.  Paula said that he played it a little bit safe this week.  Simon said he thought the vocals were okay tonight.

danny noriega week 2 Danny Noriega was in a punk-rock group when he was younger.  He said that it ended when they realized that they sucked, ha ha.  He sang “Superstar” and I actually really liked it.  Randy said it seemed like he overthought the performance.  Paula told him that he has amazing vocal skill.  Simon said it was better than last week but likes the fact that he stands out in a crowd.  OMG, that exchange between him and Simon was adorable!  I love this kid.  Sorry if that makes me biased but I think he is fabulous - he makes up for any vocal imperfections with his great personality.

david hernandez week 2 David Hernandez was in gymnastics when he was a kid and actually won some medals.  He sang “Papa Was a Rolling Stone” and I gotta say - where did all this awesome attitude come from?  It was quite good!!!  Randy said it was “hot.”  Paula said his voice is so pure and it was perfect.  Simon said that was the best vocal performance of the night.  He also said that he likes that David takes criticism and works with it rather than sulking.

Jason Yeager Week 2

Jason Yeager plays multiple instruments (piano, drums and guitar) but says he’s not ready to incorporate the guitar into his performance.  He sang “Long Train Runnin’” and, I’m sorry but there’s something about him that reminds me of a middle-aged accountant singing at an office party.  What is he wearing (it seemed like the wrong size)?  Randy said it was pitchy and karaoke.  Paula said it was fun to see this side of Jason.  Simon said it was awkward and ordinary.  He seems really upset by the criticism.  I feel sorry for him.

Chikezie Week 2 Chikezie talks about where his name comes from and how it should really be pronounced.  He sang “I Believe” and I normally get frustrated when people sing Donny Hathaway songs but I think he’s doing a good enough job.  Randy thought it was “hot.”  Paula liked the performance and thought it was brilliant.  Simon said he looked better and sounded better (a million times better than last week).  Chikezie couldn’t help but insult Simon, it was a *little* funny.

david cook week 2 David Cook talks about how he is a geek for vocabulary and loves crosswords.  I wish his hobby involved washing his hair, though.  He sang “All Right Now” (he’s also playing a guitar) and it is good.  Randy said he’s AI’s “real rocker.”  Paula agreed that he’s the real deal.  Simon said it was solid and sort of believable but mentioned the fact that David doesn’t have a lot of charisma and that crosswords are boring.

david archuleta week 2 David Archuleta talked about how he was able to meet the finalists of the first season of American Idol.  He sang “Imagine” and I must confess that it’s a song that I normally think should never be sung by anyone other than John Lennon.  David did an amazing job and proved me wrong.  Paula was very moved by the performance.  Simon said it was risky but that it worked and said he was the one to beat this year.  Bring on the crying 14-year-old girls in the audience, lol….

LOL. Is it mean that I laughed about Yeager and Menard - your “elimination hopefuls?”

I would have to agree with your top 5. I wouldn’t discount Noriega yet, though.
