American Idol 7 Top 12 Guys Colton Berry - Video
Colton Berry sang “Suspicious Minds” and it wasn’t terrible but there was something about it (or him) that I just didn’t like. Maybe the song should have been called “Pretentious Minds” since he seems really full of himself. He’s acting like singing bigger than he actually is. Anyone see that? Randy said it looked like he had a good time, started rough but found his way. Paula said it was nice to see a different side of him but it wasn’t his best performance. Simon said it was “okay” but better than the other Elvis song (Danny Noriega). Simon also said Colton had no relevance to today’s music. Ouch!

There are several of us who disagree with Simon that Colton does not have a recording voice! Close your eyes and listen to it! Someone needs to work with him on how to just sing a song and not ‘perform’ it - he is capable of blowing you away with emotion, when the right song calls for it.

Wow. It’s amazing how different people see things in different ways. There is nothing pretentious about Colton. This is a great kid with a dynamic, energizing, sweet, and funny personality. It’s unfortunate that America hasn’t had the opportunity to get to know him yet. I really don’t see how anyone can deny the voice, though. The song was clearly not the best choice, there’s no doubt about that but nonetheless that voice came through. I sincerely hope he gets another chance to show America what a truly talented performer he is - and what a lovely person he is as well!!

What was wrong with the song? Elvis would have been proud!!! Just who else could have done it? Delightful!! Can’t wait to hear more!!!

I agree that Colton did the song well, but I really think all the contestants would be smarter to just steer clear of Elvis songs. They are too well known in Elvis’ distinct voice and it is hard for alot of people to accept other versions of it. I think the same is true of Michael Jackson songs. Just my opinion.

“Full of himself” -?? Ten minutes talking with this kid, Jeanne, and you would know better. He is just so HAPPY to be able to be a part of the show and be able to sing for people. I think you probably mistook “pretentiousness” for the “happiness” he could not contain. Many of us just hope he will have the chance, to show everybody the huge talent that is within Colton Berry!

First of all, I think the song to start off the Idol season should be the Singers Favorite. Picking a favorite song is a way for you to showcase your ability and will give Viewers a true view of your ability.
Elvis should not be on the song list, there are way too many expectations to live up to while trying to belt out good a old Elvis song. Rule of thumb, no Elvis, and no other historical vocal icons.
Colton has a good voice and i can’t imagine the nerve it would take to get on stage and take that sort critique. next time,,Better song choice, less “acting” good start although…

Colton is an incredible singer, performer, and person. I don’t think the Elvis song showcased him as well as it might, but I am SOOOOOO hoping me moves on to the next round so he’ll have an opportunity to blow us away next week! And he can do that!
And he isn’t at all pretentious, he’s just enjoying this amazing circumstance to the max. I hope he goes far!

I bet Randy and Paula are kicking themselves for picking him instead of the more likeable and possibly better vocally debate kid (sorry, forgot his name). Disappointing is all I’ll say.

Randy and Paula aren’t kicking themselves over anything. They’re doing their job, and that is to pick a diverse group, personality-wise, appearance-wise, and with different types of voices. They’re having a good time watching it all unfold, watching the ups and downs, the meek and the confident. If the judges didn’t have contestants to correct and chide, then most of America wouldn’t even care to watch. And if you noticed, most of the contestants, both male and female, got a dressing down of some sort. It’s all part of the program.
Hopefully Colton will move ahead tonight and next week will blow us away! :) He’s a great guy with a big future.

Kyle was a sweetheart, but really not much better than a karaoke singer. I just can’t get over the fact that people aren’t picking up on Colton’s phenomenal voice!! Oh well, I remember that Clay Aiken got a lot of grief, too. As Elizabeth says it’s all part of the show. I’m hoping that Colton gets another chance next week. He deserves it.

I was shocked that Cole was voted off last night–the only one of the four that I didn’t get right. He does have a great voice–much better than many of the other male contestants. When I initially listened without watching, he was in the top half of my list. However, after actually watching when listening, I can understand how people might find his performance style slightly overdone. He definitely should have been around for at least another week, IMO. I totally disagree with Simon too–he should continue to sing.

I’m sure Colton will continue to sing. I wouldn’t doubt if we hear he’s on Broadway someday soon. :) He’s really that good.

We were right! A.I. did exactly what we said they would do with Colton! It wasn’t about any singing…it wasn’t about votes… it was about Simon Cowell… because this is HIS show. He was given his ‘revenge’ over Kyle and even got to stick his KNIFE into the wounded PREY the ‘controllers’ threw to the WOLF. The only thing A.I. is REAL about is the exposure contestants get -on national television.

Hey! Guess what?? Colton Berry is home now… and he has a JOB, Simon! He will be appearing on BROADWAY!! Soon as they found out he had been eliminated on A.I. they contacted him for a part in WICKED - you know… the take-off show from the Wizard of Oz - Colton Berry will continue working in SHOW BUSINESS!!! Thank God there are people out there who DO recognize TALENT! THANKS A.I. for the EXPOSURE to… THEM!!!
