American Idol 7 Top 7 - David Cook

David Cook surprised Mariah by choosing “Always Be My Baby” and it made her proud as a songwriter to hear what he did with it. I thought it was best that he could have done with this, even though there was a little weirdness. This had to be tough. Randy told him that he could be a recording artist right now. Paula said that it could be on a movie soundtrack. Simon said it was like coming out of karaoke hell into a breath of fresh air because he took a risk. David was pretty emotional tonight. The comments were great and I think that his brother, who has been battling cancer, was in the audience (he was supposed to attend but I’m not 100% sure).

His brother was in the audience, and this performance was the best of the night “by a mile”, to borrow Simon’s expression.
I guess I’m in the minority because I didn’t love this performance. I DO think David is mega talented tho and should be in the finale. I loved his tears at the end - so sweet.
I also like the quick glimpse we got of Ramiele.
I thought his voice got drowned out in the beginning of the song, but that he really rocked out the last bit of it. Which almost made me forget the beginning. So, I was fine with his performance. Not my favorite but it was okay.
And I thought the song choice was quite courageous.
Good job, what a tough thing to do with his sick brother in the audience. He pulled it off.
