American Idol 7 Top 8 – David Cook
April 8, 2008 by Jeanne
David Cook sang “Innocent” by my husband’s favorite band Our Lady Peace and it was okay. I mean, we are really critical because we really love that song. Randy did not like the performance very much, Paula said he is the whole package and Simon said he didn’t like it very much at all. He thought it was a teensy bit pompous.

It wasn’t great – but I am loving David with the darker hair!!
Vocally, his live performance was good (aside from the low part). He, however, lacked that fire, that sparkle he usually has when performing, no matter what kind of song he sings.
Now the studio version of Innocent? TOTAL LOVE! His voice is strong, and it sounds amazing. The low parts actually sound good, and that second verse is just completely amazing, with the angry, gritty vocals. This song works much better when it is allowed the build up with the repetitive chorus…. Serisouly, this is good!
Though the performance wasn’t up to par with the normal David Cook we see, it really touched me. I read an article in Star magazine about how he wears an orange wristband for a little girl who has cancer and is a fan of his. To see the wristband wrapped around his hand, because it wouldn’t have been seen on his wrist, and the fact that he sang the verse about a girl fighting cancer really got to me. He really is the American Idol. He may never fully understand what a difference he has made.
