American Idol 7 Top 8 Girls - Live Blogging
Here we go!!! Tonight, the Top 8 girls on the seventh season of American Idol square off. The guys were really good last night (almost unbeatable) so how will the ladies fare?
Asia’h Epperson is the first performance of the night and she sang “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” and I don’t think she really did anything different with the song. She didn’t take any risks. BUT… she did sing it well so it’s a tough one. I have to comment on the outfit - horrible. Sorry. Randy said she showed why she deserved to be there, Paula said she nailed it and Simon said that, at best, it was a second-rate Whitney Houston performance!
Kady Malloy sang “Who Wants to Live Forever?” and all it did was make me think that she sounds like a less talented version of Katharine McPhee. I think Kady does have a hard time being personable on stage which works against her. She comes off kinda cold to me. Randy said he thought she did a pretty good job with it, Paula said she thought that it was her best performance so far and Simon said it was better than last week but that he still has problems with her massive lack of personality.
More after the jump!
Amanda Overmyer sang “I Hate Myself For Loving You” and I thought it was pretty good. There was some pitchy parts but I kind of liked the imperfection of it. Randy said it was well done, Paula said she found her niche and that she loved her and Simon said he thought it was fantastic and that she absolutely nailed it.
Carly Smithson sang “I Drove All Night” and I thought the singing was pretty good but I don’t really feel like she connected with the lyrics in this song, you know? There’s an emotion and desperation there that I don’t think she tapped into. Randy said it was another great performance, Paula said she was totally in her niche and Simon said that he doesn’t think she picked the right song (again). I gotta mention that he pants are atrocious but her mom (in the audience from Ireland) looks incredibly young!
Kristy Lee Cook sang “Faithfully” and I thought she had some pitchy parts and, unfortunately, I felt bored. Randy said it was cool to make that Journey song sound country, Paula said it could be a country hit right now and Simon said she’s forgettable (I have to agree, sorry). He thinks the best she can do is make it to 10th place and she said “that’s okay with me.” Huh??? I don’t know if I want to vote with someone who is “okay” with 10th place. What do you think?
Ramiele Malubay sang “Against All Odds” and as much as I like Ramiele, I really hate when people sing this song. It almost never turns out right (and that’s not her fault). Still, it’s just a personal opinion and I think she is a good singer. Randy said he thought it was pretty good but that she needs to be more confident, Paula said she deserves to be in the Top 12 and Simon said it was good but predictable and old-fashioned.
Brooke White sang “Love is a Battlefield” and I loved the acoustic arrangement. I thought it suited her really well and she did a good job. Randy said he really liked it, Paula thought it was a very wise choice and Simon said it was an original take on the song and that for two weeks running, she has given a great performance.
Syesha Mercado sang “Saving All My Love For You” and she really did a good job. Again, it wasn’t too much different from the original which is my only complaint but she hit some notes that I didn’t know she could! Randy said it was good, Paula said it was sophisticated and good and Simon said it was predictable and good (kinda like all of their feedback - sheesh!!!).
