American Idol 7 Top 8 Male Performances

March 4, 2008 by Jeanne

It’s 80s night on American Idol and I’m really excited.  I love music from this decade.

First up is Luke Menard who is singing “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” by Wham and it’s pretty mediocre, at best.  Sorry…  Randy said it was corny, Paula disagreed but said she was surprised by his song choice and Simon said he doesn’t think he’s good enough to even make the final 12.  Ouch!

David Archuleta sang “Another Day in Paradise” by Phil Collins and I think it’s a good song choice.  Randy said it was good but an interesting song choice, Paula said that she loved that there were some off notes which proves he is perfect.  Simon said it wasn’t as good as last week.

More after the jump!

Danny Noriega sang “Tainted Love” and he changed it up a bit.  I’m not sure why he’s on “Vote for the Worst” but I like him.  Randy said that he liked the way the new arrangement of this song turned out in the end.  Paula said that he is the real deal and has great vocals.  Simon thought it was horrible and absolutely useless.  Wow…

David Hernandez sang “It’s All Coming Back to Me” and he was good.  No big surprises there!  Randy said it was good but that he overshot some notes, Paula said he has some of the best vocals in the competition and Simon said it wasn’t as good as last week but was good enough that he should get into the finals.

Michael Johns sang “Don’t You Forget About Me” and it was okay but it *is* one of my favorite songs (from “The Breakfast Club” soundtrack).  Randy said it was a nice one, Paula said she loves the strength in his lower range and Simon liked it but didn’t love it.

David Cook sang Lionel Richie’s “Hello” and I was really, really surprised.  I haven’t been a big fan of David’s but I really liked this.  Randy and Paula but said it could (and should) be a single on the radio right now and Simon said that it was a very brave thing to do and he loved it.

Jason Castro sang “Hallelujah” and it was good. I didn’t go crazy for it or anything but I think he put some emotion into it.  Randy said he did a pretty good job, Paula said he made it sound effortless and showed vulnerability and Simon thought it was absolutely brilliant and said that Jason is “getting better and better and better.”

Chikezie sang “All the Woman That I Nee” which I know mostly as a Whitney Houston song (as “All the Man That I Need”) and he did a good job.  Randy said it was an interesting song choice but that it was good.  Paula said the vocals sounded great and Simon said it was cabaret.

Just caught the end of Luke, but I liked it! They have to be pretty darn bad for me to not like it.

  2. Julie says:

He just doesn’t do it for me. :(

  3. Julie says:

    I’m a big David fan!!!!

  4. Jeanne says:

Luke is terrible to me, sorry Jane, lol.

Julie, I like David a lot too!

  5. Jane Boursaw says:

Danny Noriega is just creepy to me!

I love the song this guy is singing now - “The Breakfast Club”!

  6. Jane Boursaw says:

I love David, though. Overall, he’s probably my favorite so far.

  7. Jane Boursaw says:

Simon is Out.Of.His.Mind! I thought Chikezie rocked it!

  8. Jeanne says:

Chikezie and Simon just don’t like each other, lol

  9. Jann says:

Jeanne, Danny is on VFTW because he is the most entertaining contestant on the show, and he is not afraid to be himself in front of everyone — that is a good thing! They love him just as much as his non-Worster fans, they just don’t gush :)

(VFTW doesn’t actually vote for the worst :P they basically pick whomever is the funnest to watch and the person who the AI producers don’t necessarily want to win)

I love Michael Johns. And the song he sang is one of my favorite song too, so I tried to vote for him tonight. The Breakfast Club is my favorite movie so that made me love his performance even more.

  11. Julie says:

    Go David!! :D

  12. A'kyra says:

Yeah, Jeanne, VFTW is actually trying to keep Danny in that’s why they are focusing on him.

Jeanne, you are right on the Simon and Chiceze thing. They definitely do not like each other. Ithink it stems from the whole “bad suite” thing…lol….come on Chic, it was an eye sore, lol, sorry.

Overall, I was pretty surprised by the song choices tonight. There were so many good up-tempo songs from the 80’s so I was very surprised by their choices, so slow and sad for the most part. But they did pretty good. I hope the girls picked some good up beat songs.
