American Idol 7 Top 9 - Syesha Mercado

April 2, 2008 by Jeanne

Syesha Mercado

Syesha Mercado chose to sing “I Will Always Love You” and Dolly liked that she struck a balance between her version and Whitney’s.  It sounded great and I like what she did to it.  I wish she had stood up for that last part and that last note was a little indulgent.  Randy said he thought she did pretty good.  Paula said that there is a velvety tone to her voice and that she’s growing.  Simon said it was a good but not a fantastic version of the song.

You go gurl! You will be happy to know your fiance was beside himself with your performance. He is so happy for you as he should be. He was running around like crazy and your voice coach is a trip, she sings at every watch party, lol…Deco loves her, lol.

I was so sad with the lukewarm reaction you received from the judges after “I Will Always Love You”. I am a huge Dolly Parton and Whitney Houston fan, and I thought you blended both versions beautifully! You showed control and confidence. The more people I talk to, the more I realize I am not alone in my opinion! Good for you and I would buy that single in a heartbeat!
