American Idol 8 Top 10 – Allison Iraheta “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone”

March 25, 2009 by Jeanne

Allison Iraheta chose to sing “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone” and I think it was the right song choice for her.  I really liked the performance and I think that Allison is very impressive for a 16-year-old singer.  I don’t know if I was as enthusiastic as the judges but I do think it was a solid performance.

motown_week_allison_irahetaRandy said that it was blazing hot.  Kara said that America has to vote for Allison and that her voice was a gift from God.  Paula said that Allison is awesome, amazing and beautiful (with crayon on her face – why did she let Simon color on her face?).  Simon said that Allison is a survivor and that it was one of her best performances.

I was not as enthusiastic as they were either. I totally didn’t think it was as awesome as the judges made it out to be. I do think it was an alright song choice and she is great for her age. I am just not loving her the way the judges are.

It was awesome. It is one of my favorite songs and I thought she did a great take on it. I also thought she did very well last week with the Patty Loveless song.

She was the best from the girls last night, i like how she puts some rocky edge to each song she sings, but somewhat America doesn’t support rocker girls and that’s a shame :(

Whoever thinks that Allison is not a good singer is one of the dumb girls that have ruined music in the last decade by buying Justin Pencillake songs. Adam is smooth, but she blows his talent out the water. She isnt some suburban barbie, which makes her even cooler. Unlike those millions of cookie-cutter girls who all think they’re unique, she actually has a unique gift more important than a tan – talent.

I agree with you Bar B. Hunter that she is unique. I am a HUGE female singer/songwriter lover. My top faves are Joni Mitchel, Carol King, Sarah McLachlan, Fiona Apple, Tori Amos, Azure Ray, Imogen Heap, Chantal Kreviazuk, etc. etc. etc. So I appreciate and love real talent, not Barbie cookie cutter type musicians. Having said that, I still don’t think this girl is as big a deal as the judges make her out to seem. It’s just my opinion.
