American Idol 8 – Top 10 Head to Motown

March 19, 2009 by Jeanne

This season’s Top 10 on American Idol traveled to Detroit to meet with some Motown legends.  The trip wasn’t without a little drama, though.  Host, Ryan Seacrest, posted this message on Twitter earlier today: “Idol contestants american idol season 8 top 10couldn’t fly out of local airport to go to detroit for rehearsals because prez shutdown airspace. Next week is motown week.”

Fortunately, the Detroit Free Press reports that they all arrived safely and visited Motown’s old Studio A where they met up with legends Berry Gordy Jr. and Smokey Robinson.  When asked what they planned to talk to the contestants about, Gordy (Motown’s founder) said: "I’m not going to talk about singing. I’m going to talk about them as people.  Success is the easy part — it’s about what kind of person you are, and integrity. Longevity is the name of the game."

Next week, the contestants will sing Motown hits but the performance and results shows have been moved back a day because of a televised presidential address.  Update your DVRs so that you don’t miss the performances on Wednesday and the results on Thursday.
