American Idol Judges on the Charts

American Idol Judges Season 7

Am I the only one who loved Paula Abdul way before she became a judge on American Idol?  Is she a little wacky now?  Yes, but I loved her dancing and catchy songs when I was in junior high.  Of course, I’m acquainted with some of Simon Cowell’s work for other reasons (my kids loved the Teletubbies), lol…

The American Idol website mentioned that, according to Billboard, all three judges were represented on the charts last week.  Simon’s label, Syco, had the No. 1 song on the Hot 100 with Leona Lewis‘ “Bleeding Love” while Paula and Randy Jackson are on several charts, including Adult Contemporary, where “Dance Like There’s No Tomorrow” opened at # 29. While Paula is no stranger to the Adult Contemporary charts, this is Randy’s first appearance as an artist.

Here’s a list of Paula’s nine Adult Contemporary songs rank in order of chart peak:

  • No. 1 (five weeks): “Rush, Rush” (1991)
  • No. 5: “Blowing Kisses in the Wind” (1991)
  • No. 11: “Forever Your Girl” (1989)
  • No. 17: “Will You Marry Me?” (1992)
  • No. 26: “The Promise of a New Day” (1991)
  • No. 29 (to date): “Dance Like There’s No Tomorrow” (2008) [Paula Abdul & Randy Jackson]
  • No. 39: “Straight Up” (1989)
  • No. 40: “My Love Is for Real” (1995)
  • No. 45: “Opposites Attract” (1990) [Paula Abdul with the Wild Pair]

Can you believe “Straight Up” is so low and “Rush, Rush” is so high???  I really liked “Promise of a New Day.”  *sigh* Really takes me back, lol…
