American Idol Opinion Post

After reading that Entertainment Weekly article, I have developed an opinion, of sorts, about last night. It helped me identify what, exactly, about last night bothered me. It was the repeat songs! Both Melinda and Jordin sang songs they had sung earlier in the season. Blake took a risk and did three new songs. What does that mean? Well, in the grand scheme of things. Nothing. What it does do, however, is support what many like about the lone male contestant - he’s unique, takes risks and is unwilling to compromise who he is (look at that awful tuxedo shirt). I have to admit, that I am inclined towards the least clonish of the bunch. This is NOT meant to be an attack on either female contestant, because they are awesome. Nor is it an endorsement of Blake. I just was a little disappointed. And before I start getting letters about repeat performances in the past, you are thinking of the finals when the best performances of the season are chosen as the performance songs. EW puts it best:
“If Taylor Hicks, Katharine McPhee, Elliott Yamin, Carrie Underwood, Bo Bice, Vonzell Solomon, Fantasia Barrino, Diana DeGarmo, Jasmine Trias, Ruben Studdard, Clay Aiken, Kimberley Locke, Kelly Clarkson, Justin Guarini, and, yes, even Nikki McKibbin all managed to avoid duplicating their performances up to and including top-three week, how come Jordin and Melinda could not?”
It’s just a question. I mean, when it comes to next week, they will have to sing an earlier performance which means that, for two weeks in a row, we will have had leftovers. It’s not quite fair.
I know I’m gonna hear about this, so give me your opinion. And, please, if you favor a certain contestant, try to be objective. Please???

Blake performed or rather entertained very well last night and, as you state, he was the only one not to reprise songs. Thankfully he kept the beatboxing to a minimum but even so struck me as the most contemporary - and therefore marketable - of the three finalists. Good luck to Blake tonight. The NW should be proud of him.

I agree with you Martin. The NW should be proud of him. He is extremely entertaining, marketable and modern. I hope some executive is hoping he loses Idol so that they can scoop him up and make him a star!

Tiffany, I think Melinda is going to do a great job! She is so talented! I’m not sure about Jordin yet but that’s not because I don’t like her. I’m just not sure what direction her new management is going to take her.
