American Idol Ruben Studdard Dropped By Label
SOHH is reporting that American Idol winner, Ruben Studdard, has been dropped by J Records. Merry Christmas - ouch!
"Studdard’s first J Record release Soulful, released in 2003, is RIAA certified platinum. His 2004 gospel follow up, I Need An Angel also fared well - reaching gold status. However sales of his 2006 project The Return have been unable to match his previous success, moving barely 235,000 copies."
Well, I know he has got some other things he has been working on so I’m hoping they pan out for him. It is rumored that he is getting ready for his role as Fats Waller in a national theatre tour of "Ain’t Misbehavin’."
It makes me sad because I think Ruben is a really good singer but I think he was poorly managed and marketed.
Any Ruben fans out there???

Poor Ruben, I agree he was managed badly. They should have stck with the music that fit his style such as: Luther or Teddy would

With any Idol, they are coming off TV exposure at full steam. Every year, there are more and more idols to compete with that have just had all that exposure when you have not. The only way to survive is to redefine your self or fit so tightly in a niche, no one can budge you.
Sometimes life sucks.
On the positive side, Ruben does have the respect of some major stars.
It is too bad that expensive variety shows have been replaced with cheap reality shows. It would give a better forum to artists like Ruben.

Ruben definitely was not treated fairly, but I do believe going in the hip hop direction hurt him a bit.
He still has a wonderful voice and I hope he can get back on track with a new label.

….So I’m watching the 10 pm news in Atlanta, Ga. tonight (while on Christmas vacation) and find out that Ruben Studdard was dropped from J Records. I was SHOCKED! I thought he made a good album last year, some smooth R&B, but it only sold 235,000. I like Make Ya Feel Beautiful the most and other tracks. He’s a very good singer in my opinion. Ruben, don’t let this get you down–try to get on another record label that will appreciate your talent the most. J Records just did not promote his last album enough. Maybe they couldn’t take too many frustration and low sales weeks of Ruben’s album. You have many loyal fans that love your music and smooth singing!

[…] sounds great, by the way, so I’m hoping that all of his record label woes are behind […]
