American Idol Season 7 Audition - Asia’h Epperson

by Jeanne on February 5th, 2008

imageAsia’h Epperson was my favorite of the night (maybe even of this season so far).  Two days before the audition, she called to tell her father know how much she loved him and how she wished he was with her.  Thirty minutes later, her brother called to tell her that their father had just died in a car accident.  She chose to go ahead with her audition anyway.

When Simon Cowell asked her what she was going to sing, she explained that she had prepared something but, due to the passing of her father, she had chosen to sing LeAnn Rimes‘ song, “How Do I Live.”  Voice, heavy and sometimes cracking with emotion, she made it through and it was amazing.  It may not have been the perfect audition vocally but it was still almost perfect in every other way.  You can tell she has a great voice but it’s her spirit and her determination that just won me over.  When Asia’h was put through to the next round, Paula Abdul could not help but cry and neither could I.  I cried like a baby.  What a strong, brave young woman.

Yes, it was amazing. I’m a 56-year-old dumb white guy and I was in tears. I know what it’s like to love a daughter and want the best for her. Asia’h and her dad had/have something special. She made him proud.

Greetings from Joplin, Missouri! A’siah was amazing! I am so sorry to hear of her father’s passing. Unfortanately, I missed her performance for the first time, but our local news showed a clip that night and was so excited for her getting the chance to appear on American Idol and dedicate her song to her late father. I just finished watching her interview right before she sang and I just cried my little eyes out. My heart was heavy and I got a headrush. I am so happy to know that our family have our own local sweetheart to vote for. A’siah, we may have bumped elbows in our mall or I may have sold you some clothes at the Gap where I used to work. You look so familiar. This is amazing. You are amazing and very beautiful! We’re cheering for you all the way!! YOU WILL DEFINATELY MAKE THE TOP 24!!!! YOU WILL BE THE NEXT AMERICAN IDOL!!!! JOPLIN LOVES YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I knew Asia’h when she was Freshman in High school. We shared a science class together and were paired up as partners and seat buddies. We would always chat about boys, and clothes, and what was going on around school and everyone in it. We always had so much fun together.
I ran into her last November when she was working at Garfield’s, here in our mall (Joplin, MO) and I was like “OMG ASAI’H!!!” and we hugged and laughed and it was like “yay,, my girl!” then she told me about American Idol and I was so excited for her.
I’m voting for her all the way!!!

I am not a hard-core Idol fan. I watch it when it’s on. However, this girl is the real deal. There’s something special about her. She sings amazingly; she’s outgoing, pretty, etc. Moreover, she has an “IT” factor that is required for a star in the making. I believe, she should win the whole thing. Even if she does not win the whole thing, she a STAR. I think she this season’s Jen Hudson.

Asia.. such potential ! but that is a projection into the future but she’s got to show a more edgy presence Confidence with ATTITUDE.. always standing straight up and strong! outfits should be sleek silhouettes with sass! hair less school-girl! sweet is nice but her vocals and features demand more O WOW! think warrior meets high fashion. Rearrange songs use latin+soul pop mixes-eg. whitney’s I am every woman mixed with jilly’ seven day fool with a latin beat and a mere touch of soft rap! She could even borrow Sharon Jone’s strong songs and lyrics and make them power pop songs with a dance beat! But more than ever bump-up her presence and song delivery VAVUM

ok, it seems ai should really make sure someone died and it is not just another (of the many) falsehoods put out on these reality shows. frankly, i think she is a little too strong to talk about someone dying in a car accident - personally if someone close to me was in a car accident i would cry just trying to tell someone (ok, maybe a year or two later i could talk) but two days??? sounds like a come on….

Ok, it seems like some people who have NEVER been in her situation need to give people the benefit of the doubt, and not just assume that she’s some attention seeker playing up on a death, or lying about the death of her father. What happened to “innocent before proven guilty?”

when I got the phone call that my dad had died, it put me in a surreal head space. It was before heading out to work and I did go. my world became - work and at home- making arrangements etc. It was about doing what I had to do. then at the funeral is when I let the dam burst. So a person, dear seen it all, can experience shock and be in that surreal space until the time comes when shock gives way to uncontrolled emotion.—-(o)

I love Asia’h when she was on American Idol. It just say to see her get voted off so early. I really thought she was going to be one teverybody had to beat. But things change when you have one bad night in the competition if I see or get in touch with Asia’h we will talk about a records deal with my label.

Asia’h Epperson is truly a strong, beautiful young woman who greatly inspired me not only with her overall performance on American Idol, but with her mere presence in the competition. Just the sheer mettle she exhibited in entering the competition so soon after her father’s passing is absolutely amazing to me; I honestly do not believe I could have composed myself enough to compete the way she did!

On the strength of such inspiration, Asia’h instantly became my favorite competitor in the American Idol competition, which, for me, lost much of its luster and appeal upon her exclusion from the Top 12. …

“Disappointed” doesn’t even begin to describe how I felt in the aftermath of the results show, but I realize that the Lord has a plan for her, and she will be just fine. We’ll miss you, Asia’h! May God bless and keep you.

America is the most cruel state on earth for u to have not voted in much support for this gal.
Asia’h is not really the best in singing but beleive you me a top3 won’t be a bad position at least.
Baby, the God of my grand grand father & your late father will lead you to the greatest height attainable in life and hopefully we shall meet somewhere somehow.
    I LOVE YOU BABY……….

    Hola.
    Saludos.

I was highly upset when I watched the results show and found out that she was eliminated. I actually loved her rendition of Whitney’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” To tell the truth, the song has kinda been stuck in my head ever since. Her version has taken over Whitney’s in my head.

She basically reminds me of Keyshia Cole, but better with a little Mariah the way she hits the high notes. She was indeed my favorite female and overall performer of this season. I never watched idol until my fiancee kinda coerced me into it this year. When I saw her it changed everything. I found myself wanting to watch each week just to see her. Now it’s like whatever? If I see it I see it, if I don’t I don’t.

My favorite females were in this order.
    #1 Asia’h
    #2 Ramiele
    #3 Syesha

I now find myself taking a liking to Brooke in Asia’h’s absence. She kinda gives me a a Sarah Mclachlan meets (strangely) Alicia Keys with the way she plays the piano and sings. The way she performed “Let it Be” was unbelievable. I still hope that in the end Ramiele takes the title, but I feel that she is being down played by the judges and Brooke is being giving more of the spotlight. American’s by nature are followers. Most of us anyway, but not me. Most will follow whatever the judges say and vote for who the Judges like the most even though their gut says vote otherwise. It’s sad to say that talent is pushed aside and popularity is the deciding factor.

These are my thoughts and opinions. Choose to Agree or Disagree. It’s your god given right!

As far as the guys are concerned, I’m not really feeling any of them. David A reminds me of a hobit from lord of the rings. He’s talented, but I don’t think he’s talented enough to win the competition. Chikezie is fun to watch, but that’s about it. I still feel as though he hasn’t been given enough time to shine. Maybe he’s just choosing the wrong songs. Who knows? I think David Cook & Michael Johns are the guys to beat this season. Using the good old Roger Troutman voice enhancer was pure genius. lol! He should sing computer love next week. lmao!!!

But anyway, Who knows what America will decide. Remember, we are the same country that voted for Taylor Hicks and George W. Bush. Lord help us!

Find those Florida Ballots. I’m sure you’ll find all of Asia’h’s votes in there too. She was seriously robbed. She may not have one American Idol, but she has one my heart. Can’t wait for the album to drop. I know it’s coming. With talent like that, nothing can stop you and I’m sure someone will pick her up.

    Best Wishes!!!

I love Asia’h Epperson that minute I saw her. She is a very strong person with great talent. Too bad she was voted off, I however think she will re-suface again. Talent that good can’t stay hidden for too long.

I wasn’t a big fan of the song she sang that resulted in her getting voted off. But I don’t think that she should have been voted off at all. She is very pretty and is very talented. I doubt very seriously that we have seen the last of her in the entertainment medium.

I cannot believe that she has been voted out of the American Idol Season 7. She had a strong yet beautiful voice and she was pitted against Kristy Lee Cook??? How could she had lost? America, what were you thinking of?

I couldn’t really understand why Asia’h was voted off. Her voice and personality is just amazing. Don’t know what happen with the voting but in my opinion she’s much better than some of those who are still in the top 10.

    Thanks.

I’m still in shock that she was voted out of the show so early. Could be that her story was overplayed and acted against her but she was so talented, this whole thing must be a what could have been for AI.

I think Asia’h Epperson has great talent but unfortunately Asia’h Epperson also has the knack for choosing the wrong song.

Compared to the other female contestants on American Idol, Asia’h Epperson is right up there with Syesha and the rest but perhaps it was also just pure bad luck since Asia’h Epperson was actually one of the contestants who created quite a bit of buzz with her compelling story of her father.
