Valerie Reyes loves Mariah Carey and listens to her obsessively. She also said that when it comes to bad auditions on American Idol she likes to just sit back and laugh. Nice…
She sang "Against All Odds" and I couldn’t even believe what I heard! Not surprisingly, the judges thought she was terrible and Simon said she sounded like a Mariah Carey CD that had been left out in the sun for too long (ouch!). She was crushed and realized she’d be one of those "rejects." I couldn’t help but snicker about that one, lol.

This chic was a MESS! I laughed so hard when she opened her mouth….how can she actually think she sounds like Maraiah??????
I think Valerie Reyes has talent.1) As Randy said, she has a tone there and if she stops trying to be like anybody else and just tried working on her tone…2) Valerie also had a “glock” in her voice. A glock is something some country singer use effectively. Lee Rimes used it in her song “Blue.” It’s the main component in yodeling. Valerie needs to get more control of her glock.3) At the end of Valerie’s audition she was improvising, the judges don’t seem to like that especially if you’re not great at it. She needs to learn improvisational techniques too…
Down the road Valerie Reyes could be an awesome combination of Mariah and LeAnne. She certainly has Mariah’s range and the belief in herself. Practice, practice, practice…
I saw her and I fell in love with her beauty and her raw talent. I only wish I could meet her but I’m on the wrong side of the country. Oh well…I hope she continues to sing and gets a really good voice teacher in San Diego out of this experience. Maybe I can see her again in a couple of years at 2010 American Idol Audition.
