American Idol Season 8 Adds New Rule
March 11, 2009 by Jeanne
Tonight, it was announced that only once during the season, the judges can save a contestant who was voted off but there are conditions. Here they are:
- The vote veto (as I’m calling it) can only happen once in the season
- The judges must all agree that the contestant needs to be saved
- This privilege cannot be used once the competition reaches the Top 5
- The week after the veto, two contestants will have to go home
So, if a really talented singer has a bad week, for example, and doesn’t get enough votes, the judges can save that person from elimination if they all think they deserve a second chance but they have to choose wisely because they can only do this once between now and the Top 5 performances.
Got it? What do you think of this rule change? I kinda like it

It could have saved at least one major loss to practically every season, so I like the idea. Too often the public votes on fandom rather than talent and this let’s the judges, who let’s face it know a lot more about talent than do we the public.
But Tamyra, Jennifer, and Daughtry couldn’t have been saved if the save expires top 5 week.
Oops, Jennifer could have.
Yeahss; I kinda like this thing. Cause if your favorite is in trouble && theyr’e good enough
for thee judges.. He/She can stay. But; Anoop, Scott, or Lil just needa leave. I don’t care for them, too much.
As the season unfolds, I think the save will only be used on Adam or Danny, maybe Allison. Those two (or three) are head and shoulders above the rest. Adam seems to be in a class all to himself, standing ovation from all four judges this week! Has that EVER happened? That is the reason the save exists, to save a Adam or Danny or Allison. Not a Scott or Anoop or Lil or Chris or Megan or Alexis or whoever.
