American Idol Season 8 Ratings Are Down

February 17, 2009 by Jeanne

Big surprise – apparently, the ratings are down for the current season of AMERICAN IDOL: Logo 2009. CR: FOX American Idol.  The LA Times is reporting that the show has slipped 8% in total viewers in comparison with last season (which didn’t have the best ratings either) and that it is also down 14% among 18 to 49 year old viewers (not good since advertisers mainly target this group).  Even worse – this is the lowest-rated season of American Idol among viewers under 50 since the first season in 2002 (and that was in the summer, a time when you’d expect lower ratings – yikes!).

I know that this extended Hollywood Week format is confusing and frustrating some people (myself included).  What do you think – has this season been more boring than the others?

yeah I agree- why change something that works-this season sucks- bad singers and wierd changes in a program that we were already used to – fatal to a good tv program

I thought Idol fans and people with websites would find this article interesting about how American Idol affects web traffic when it is on the air. The power of Idol is everywhere.
