American Idol Season 8 Top 7 Recap

April 14, 2009 by Jeanne

Tonight, the Top 7 performed on American Idol and at the top of the show, host Ryan Seacrest announced that, because the show has a tendency to run long, contestants will only get feedback from two of the four judges.  If anyone wants to argue against the addition of the fourth judge, now is the time.  I kind of feel sorry for Kara DioGuardi.american idol 8 top 7

Filmmaker, Quentin Tarantino, is serving at the celebrity coach/mentor this week and it’s his second appearance on the show.  Back during Season 3 he actually was a guest judge.

Allison Iraheta was the first to perform and she sang “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing.”  She received feedback from Paula and Simon who both liked it.

Anoop Desai sang “Everything I Do (I Do It For You)” and I knew, for some reason, that he would eventually sing that song.  It actually was a good performance and Kara and Randy liked it.

Adam Lambert sang “Born to Be Wild” and I liked it but I didn’t love it as much as his performances from the past few weeks.  It felt like a Broadway number and Simon seemed to agree with me.  Paula (and the audience) were freaking out, though.

Matt Giraud sang “Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman?” and I was optimistic at first but then the performance derailed.  Randy didn’t particularly love it and I didn’t get to hear what Kara said because I was too distracted by Simon’s weird behavior behind her.

Danny Gokey chose to sing “Endless Love” and I’m sure everyone was thinking about how difficult the song was for him to sing, considering the recent death of his wife.  Paula liked it and so did Simon but he said that he was disappointed in the arrangement.

Kris Allen sang “Falling Slowly” and it was a beautiful, heartfelt performance even though it wasn’t vocally perfect.  Randy didn’t particularly like it but Kara said that it was one of his best moments.

Lil Rounds sang “The Rose” and I would not have chosen that song for her but she defended the selection when Simon told her that he didn’t like it.  Paula seemed to like it but I didn’t understand what she said.
