American Idol Welcomes Martina McBride and Country Week
April 15, 2007 by Jeanne

Country music superstar, Martina McBride, will be mentoring the contestants this week as they navigate their way through Country Week. McBride, whose most popular songs include the hit “This One’s For the Girls,” will be performing her recently released single “Anyway” from her album “Waking Up Laughing.” It will be interesting to see what advice she has for the Idol hopefuls, particularly since the remaining contestants are not particularly “country.”
Country Week on American Idol is notorious for leading to some of the most painful, surprising and/or wonderful performances. Last season, Kellie Pickler sang “Fancy,” Taylor Hicks sang “Take Me Home, Country Road,” Katharine McPhee sang “Bringing Out the Elvis” but it was Mandisa, who sang “Any Man of Mine” who was eliminated. Her powerful vocals just devoured that “cute” country song and, unfortunately, she was sent home. Who will it be this week?

I am not a coutry music fan, but the lyrics to that song left me with chill bumps. And can that woman sang. God bless her
