American Idol’s Jennifer Hudson Named Academy Member

Jennifer Hudson

Former American Idol contestant, Jennifer Hudson, has been named one of this year’s new members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Other notable additions this year include Jennifer Aniston and Eddie Murphy. Sid Ganis, President of the Academy, told Reuters, “These individuals are all exceptionally accomplished in their respective fields. We’re looking forward to having them join the Academy’s ranks.”

The Academy has some stringent rules for preventing the number of members from becoming too large. There are about 6,000 members currently and they are happy to keep the growth to a minimum, so being selected is quite an honor.

According to Reuters, Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Hudson, Eddie Murphy and the other new members will be asked to come to an invitation-only reception at the Fairbanks Center for Motion Picture Study in Beverly Hills in September, where the new members will be welcomed into the Academy officially.

How exciting!
