Are There No Uplifting “Sad” Songs? And is Lakisha Jones Crazy!?!?!
I am really impressed with what the show is doing to help needy people in Africa and America. I know tonight’s theme, “Idol Gives Back” is a serious one and the issues are sad but there are uplifting tunes out there. It doesn’t have to sound sad and serious to be sad and serious. I mean Chris’ choice “If I Could Change the World” makes change seem like a pipe dream and “Imagine” asks listeners to do just that - imagine. Even “We Are the World” has more proactive lyrics than the songs I heard tonight, but I digress…

Chris Richardson “If I Could Change the World.” To be fair, I would not want to go first on such an important and serious night. I think his performance was decent enough but there were pitch problems.
No one mentioned it - could it be that they are trying to keep tonight “nice”?

Melinda Doolittle sang “There Will Come a Day.” It was a good song choice and she made it sound different enough from Faith Hill’s version to make me pay attention. I am so grateful that Simon made her stop making that shocked face when he compliments her - now I don’t have to fast-forward through her feedback.

Blake Lewis sang “Imagine” and he brought a sincerity to the stage that the first two performers did not. I’m not saying Chris and Melinda were cold during their songs but Blake really gave a tender performance. Maybe it was just the song or the painkillers I’m taking - I dunno.

What the crap is up with Lakisha Jones and her obsession with singing former Idols’ songs???? Last week during Country Week she sang Carrie Underwood’s “Jesus Take the Wheel” and tonight she sang Fantasia’s “I Believe.” Paula appeared to be on crack during her commentary but I agree with what she tried to say. Fantasia is too unique to try to imitate, so don’t try. I warned you last week, Kiki, and this may have been your swan song…at least you’ve already started screaming.

Phil Stacey sang “Change” and did a good job. I did not feel a ton of emotion from him but I can’t be too harsh. He is a military man so that might have something to do with it. Simon had a lot of constructive feedback tonight. It went on for so long that I began to wonder if I was watching Counselling Idol. Oooh, imagine if they had that show? The judges watch you go through life tasks and then critique you on live television. Ouch.

Jordin Sparks sang “You Will Never Walk Alone.” I did not love this performance. I honestly don’t get it. Her vibrato is grating and she never hits a note right on - she slides into them which is not good. She had some real pitch problems at the end and, again, no one said anything. Why are they trying to keep her on the show? I think this is weird. Could it be that this season is so boring that it makes her sound better than she really is? The good thing was that it was one of the more uplifting performances tonight.

I totally disagree with you on Jordin Sparks. What makes her so unique is that she is a total package. Her personality is addictive and she has a great voice.

I am sorry but, what was that tonight. Jordan was the best for me. The rest I don’t know. And Blake, did something like a high pitch beat box sound come out of him, what was that high not. Boring boring

Yea, Chris definitely had some pitch problems. The judges were definitely too nice to him.

Wow. I guess I and Rickey.org are absolutely crazy. I did find tonight boring but not enough to like Jordin, sorry. Don’t hate me. It’s just my opinion.
