Ben Mulroney, the host of Canadian Idol showed his displeasure with tonight’s elimination of Greg Neufeld. Here’s the video:

I admit that I often find Ben pretty cheesy and goofy, but I am so glad that he was so vehement in stating that “Canada got this wrong.” So true.
I love the way Ben just was all over it. I was actually cracking up when he said ” This guy deserves a standing ovation – On your feet” it was so forceful! Haha. I’m gutted that Greg left…I really thought he’d be there til the end.
Are you kidding me? It appears as if they mixed up the rankings. Neufeld, Carly Rae and Melo? Those should have been the top 3, not the bottom 3. How did this happen? I hope the results were triple checked, because something stinks!
I think Greg Neufeld is better off not winning. He’ll be able to make the record he wants, not sing some cheesy idol song and squeeze out a record in 4 weeks. This will give him more freedom to do what he wants, not what the producers wants. In saying that, I would have liked to have seen him stick around longer, as he’s deserving and I truly enjoy his performances.
I am with you Richelle..
There are those who have said that Ben should have stayed neutral. But geez… he’s allowed to have an opinion. And I think he was just voicing what a lot of people were thinking.
Greg can now go and make an awesome album. And I’m sure there’ll be offers of help if he needs it!
Benny Boy, Canada got this right, he should have nailed it the first time, 2 trips to the Idol doesn’t cut it for me. Ben my boy, you should hide in your mother’s skirt, that was an embarrasing display of affection, you should have done it to Khalila, Mila & Martha Joy, you won’t be in the hot seat right now, acting like the world was ending after Greggy’e elimination. You are big joke,
you should be fired for supporting your chosen one in front of millions. Greggy Fans, the sun will always shine and Jake Gould will produce his record like he did with Jenny Gear.
Oh my god, the man is allowed to have an opinion! Howard, I bet you wouldn’t be whining if he had said this about Martha Joy. If you hate the host, judges, and the remaining contestants, don’t watch the effing show.
Well said, Kimmy!
As I said before, everyone is entitled to an opinion. However, as the Master of Ceremonies / Presenter, I dont think Ben Mulroney should show his preference the way he did when Greg was eliminated. He’s the one who repeatedly says every week…” Canada has voted” and he ought to respect the fact that it’s not his or any of the judges opinion that decides a contestant’s fate in this competition. Canada voted, and unfortunately, one of Ben;s choice, Greg was eliminated. Wether we like it or not, the show must go on. Ben, was obviously in disagreement with the decision that the voters had made, and in my opinion he should never had remarked that “Canada had voted wrong”. Who is he to make a decision for the voters ?
First of all, Ben didn’t “make a decision for the voters,” he made a comment about the decision made by the voters… different thing entirely. And the Idol producers were also in disagreement with the decision that the voters made, so it’s not like Ben was voicing an opinion that he alone held. And the producers seem to have no problem with the fact that Ben said what he did on camera… so why should you?
I didnt have a problem with Ben’s decision because everyone is entitled to his/ her opinion and so do I.
Wether or not the producers or Ben or even you thought that the voters decision wasn’t popular, none of us can do anything about it. The fact still remain that if a contestant doesn’t get the required amount of votes, he or she has to go wether they are the people’s favourite or not.
In concluding, let me echo it again. It is the voters who have the final say.
You mean, it’s the people who can spend two hours voting obsessively who get the final say. The voting is not always representative of popular opinion, because it is not one vote per person. When someone who is clearly one of the most talented contestants is sent home, I think it is anyone’s right to comment on the obvious injustice.
Ogee, My comment about Ben’s statement being supported by the producers was in direct response to your assertion that “(Ben) should never had remarked that “Canada had voted wrong”. Who is he to make a decision for the voters?”
But then you came back after I commented and said “I didnt have a problem with Ben’s decision because everyone is entitled to his/ her opinion…” which seems to be a direct contradiction to your earlier comment.
I never argued with the fact that the voters have the final say. I may disagree with the outcome, but I know that’s the fact of this particular reality show. But I agree with Kimmy that the voting is not always representative of popular opinion. It would be nice if that could be changed, but I don’t see that happening. So I may end up having to vote with my remote control by turning Idol off if the contestants that I’m voting for based on talent end up being eliminated from the show.
Point taken my friend….
