"Big & Rich" Singer Rips American Idol
June 14, 2008 by Jeanne
John Rich of the group, “Big & Rich” does not like American Idol from what I gather… He’s currently a judge on Nashville Star and he had the following to say: “‘American Idol’ infuriates me as an artist. I can’t stand watching it. I wouldn’t want to be on that show now if you gave me a $100 bill.”
It didn’t end there. He apparently wanted to weigh in on the time when Ryan Seacrest had to address the rumors that Paula Abdul was under the influence when she provided feedback on a performance that never took place this past season. Rich said: “When you can’t make a cognizant comment about someone’s performance and you’re commenting on something that happened the day before, why don’t you just walk up onstage and slap them right across the face while you’re at it? As an artist, I would just flip them the bird and walk off the stage and go, ‘Thank you very much. I’m going back to Topeka and work on it on my own.’ ”
Well, I can understand what he is saying but Nashville Star can thank American Idol for making this type of show so popular (yeah, I know there was Star Search and all that before but nothing has been as big as Idol). So, as much as I see his point, I’m going to go on loving Idol.

That’s probably because he’s more pissed about how badly Idol has treated his newest protege, Diana DeGarmo, Season 3 runner up. The dude is hardcore though.
He’s right, Idol sucks!
I don’t think he has problems with idol performers, more with idol management, Big and Rich has supported many idols in country music.
Um, is he serious? I’ve been watching Nashville Star this season, and there is no talent whatsoever – and I’m not just talking about the contestants. The judges may be big country acts, but they don’t know how to crtique another person’s performance, or help them improve. I don’t think he’s in a position to criticize Idol anyway, considering how well it’s done, especially in comparison with Nashville Star.
“I wouldn’t want to be on that show now if you gave me a $100 bill.” I wouldn’t want him to be on the show if you gave me $100,000 bill!
