Canadian Idol 6 – Who Will Win it All?

The sixth season of Canadian Idol is about to wrap and it has come down to two male singers – Mitch MacDonald and Theo Tams. I have no idea who will win tomorrow night but I will like to talk about the two of them and offer my opinion. Please feel free to share yours in the comment area!
Mitch is unique. I get that. What I don’t get is how his regularly off-key performances continue to win him praise and millions of votes. Some of the judges said that it made him charming but I am sorry – I need a singer who can actually sing in tune. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying Mitch *can’t* get there because I think he can (when people start actually telling him the truth and he gets some vocal coaching) but, right now, I don’t think he’s ready for this.
Theo, on the other hand, is already developed – he just needs to realize it! He has the musicality, the voice and the presence to step seamlessly into the music industry right now. He just has to avoid overdoing it which he tends to do but that seems to be getting better week by week (Anne Murray’s comments about him reducing the number of runs he adds to a song might have helped).

I think most people would agree with you Jeanne that Theo has more talent than Mitch and that Mitch sings offkey. I agree, yet I would never buy an album from Theo but I would from Mitch. It’s just personal taste. Theo is too adult contemporary for me. Mitch just has that offkey storyteller thing going on, like Guy Clark, Leonard Cohen, even Bob Dylan. I doubt Mitch will win because old man storyteller isn’t much of a hook for Canadian Idol at the end of the day. So, I think Theo will win. He’s really talented and obviously really wants this, so congrats to him.
I think Mitch will win. Like the above comment said, I wouldn’t buy Theo’s CD but I would buy Mitch’s. Right now they are both winners, either way they have thier foot in the door to the music industry. How many Canadian Idols do you hear on the radio today….maybe one. It’s up to them weather they can weather the storm.
I voted for Theo (in your poll) because I think he SHOULD win. I don’t know, though… Mitch may take it all because of VFTW.
I know whose CD I would buy… and it’s not the ten tracks of off-key, nasal whining. Mitch may be a nice guy, but that shouldn’t be the reason he wins.
