Canadian Idol August 20, 2007 - Carly Rae Jepsen

Carly Rae Jepsen sang “Chuck E’s In Love” by Rickie Lee Jones and, well, she was her usual Carly self. She is consistent if nothing else. She definitely looked like she had fun which is great!

    I really don’t get her. To me, this performance was just plain awful.

    I agree with Jake that she’s better when she sings the sad stuff and makes herself vulnerable. She can get a little cutesy with the upbeat stuff. Having said that, I think her arrangement did downplay the cute stuff to a certain extent.

    But I find it kind of depressing that so few people seem to appreciate her unique style. I think it would be so refreshing to have someone like Carly Rae as the next Idol. Pity that I seem to be in the minority.

    I agree with you Ozzy.
    I also do not get Carly Rae and I do not think she should still be in the competition. However, I do think that she would do well away from the idol stage. She could make good music. Althouigh I wonder if people would get tired of her. I am already tired of her voice.

    While I do really like her, I think she sounds a million times better singing her own songs. Examples: her audition for CI or this song.

    Let me elaborate - I recall her looking stick thin at auditions….and as time goes by, she seems to be looking “puffier” and keeps wearing loose, baggy tops and stuff…and I kept thinking I saw a bump under that black dress…

    Pregnant? I doubt it. It’s probably just all the Kraft products they’re forced to eat. :P

    I like Carly a lot, and I think she’s my favourite performer of the ones who are left (Greg was my top favourite). I just don’t want her to win. I’d rather see what kind of album she’d make… without being under the control of the producers.

    I soo don’t think Carly Rae is pregnant. And if she does look “puffier” (which actually I don’t see myself), I agree with L that it’s probably from being force fed all those Kraft products. ;-)

    And yes, thanks so much for that link Kimmy! It’s nice to know that she’s a talented songwriter and not just a talented singer. Win or lose, I’ll be buying Carly Rae’s album.

    I’ve known Carly since she was about 8 yrs. old and she sure could sing then. I look forward to her first album
    Must be doing something right, Canada has her in the top 4
