Canadian Idol Cancelled for 2009 Season

WOW!  It’s official – there will be no Canadian Idol for 2009.  The National Post is reporting that CTV released the following statement: “as a result of the current economic climate, production of Canadian Idol will rest for the 2009 year.”

From what I’ve seen, it doesn’t look like the show is totally cancelled but it is being put on hold.  I’m really surprised but I’m not out of hope.  The article also pointed out that other Idol shows have taken year-long breaks and come back which was the case in Germany, Russia and the Netherlands.

no way, this is soooo sad. I always look forward to a new season of Canadian Idol, and this year i was realy looking forward to auditioning for the new season. I am really disappointed and hopefully this isn’t the actual cancellation of the show, hopefully they’ll come back even later in the summer.

SO DISAPPOINTED, MY DAUGHTER WAS WAITING TO TURN 16 SO SHE COULD AUDITION FOR THE SHOW..AND NOW SHE IS GOING TO BE LET DOWN WHEN I TELL HER… CANADA IS MISSING OUT ON SOMETHING REALLY SPECIAL…SHE IS ONE OF A KIND, A PLEASURE TO LISTEN TOO…IF SOMETHING CHANGES AND THEY DECIDE TO HAVE THE SHOW LATER ON IN THE YEAR, PLEASE NOTIFY ME..

Terrible! Music has recently become a big passion of mine and I’m crossing my fingers that the show will come back for 2010. Who knows, I may even give the auditions a try…. nothing ventured nothing gained.

What; you have to be kidding me. America is in worse financial shape than us
Come on, I think everyone should email, write, phone whoever you can think of to get this changed. We should hire Paula Abdul to be a judge and show those americans who has talent. But I love all the Canadian judges too.

Come ON get that show back on the air!

That is very sad about the cancellation of Canadian Idol…. Idol all over the world should work as a team to keep the funds going to support this program because in the long run Idol does bring in a lot of money and I feel that between all the Idols in the world there has got to be a way to pull this together! Think about how many viewers, contestants, and even workers are going to be out because of this. I dont know but personally if they do end up cancelling it all together it might just cause more harm than good and I dont think that scar will heal for Canadian Idol….. there are too many people who look forward to it every year. There has to be a way!!

I enjoy watching both Canadian & American Idol. I am surprised to see that CTV cancelled the 2009 Canadian Idol season for economic reasons. Considering Canada didn’t suffer as much economic disaster as the Americans because of our strong banking system, I find CTV’s reasons to be ridiculous! CTV and it’s sponsors are falling a little short when it comes to supporting Canadian talent.
