Canadian Idol Live Blogging Tonight!

Canadian Idol’s Top 6 perform tonight and I’ll be here live blogging!Come back tonight and join the discussion!
Update: Tonight was not great in my mind. I don’t think anyone was very good. I wonder if Greg’s departure shook them up or if the audio was off in the auditorium. What do you think?
There was a segment about Greg Neufeld’s elimination and then a discussion about this week’s theme “pop rock week” and Maroon 5.
Tara Oram sang “Walking on Sunshine” and I found it pretty boring, cheesy and not really good. The one thing that has consistently annoyed me about Tara is that she makes these facial expressions that make it seem like she is her own biggest fan. I could be wrong - but she’s starting to rub me the wrong way. Jake Gold said that the song was difficult because it is so recognizable. Farley Flex said it was a bit too “pop,” Sass Jordan said she performs better than she sings, and Zack Werner said that he can’t imagine being someplace and having anyone who performed so badly lasting on stage for more than a minute.
Jaydee sang “Amazed” and it was not great, he was having pitch problems that I have never seen him have. I was also a bit disappointed that he didn’t take more of a risk by picking a song that wasn’t country. Farley said it made his ears hurt, Sass, again, said he looked better than he sounded, Zack said that if Jaydee was singing like that somewhere, he’d leave in a heartbeat and Jake said he didn’t find that Jaydee “felt” the lyrics enough.
Matt Rapley sang “Everything” and he accompanied himself on the piano and it wasn’t great but it was better than last week. His timing was not perfect throughout the song but overall. Sass said it was better than the first two, Zack didn’t like the fact that Matt smiled too much, Jake said it was a happy song and that Matt seemed comfortable and Farley said that for the first time it seemed like Matt came out to entertain and that he was evolving.
Carly Rae Jepsen sang “Come to My Window” and it went okay for me, until she held that really long note. It actually just annoyed me, especially when she added that growl. Zack said it wasn’t as bad as the others and he doesn’t understand why she chose to sing it, Jake said she sang the song the “Carly Rae” way and that she did it beautifully, tenderly and emotionally, Farley said that she has the strongest sense of self of the remaining contestants and Sass said that she thinks it was the best version she has ever heard of that song. WTH ever! You can like Carly without going wayyyy too far!
Brian Melo sang “The Dolphins Cry” and wore an outfit straight out of the “Paris Mimes” collection. I know a ton of people are gonna say that they loved this but I really did not. He gets an “A” for performance but I’m beginning to wonder if there are audio issues in the arena tonight or if the contestants are spooked from Greg’s elimination but I don’t find anyone particularly good tonight. Jake said that for the past couple of weeks Brian has really risen to the occasion, Farley said he finds his performances honest and “Melo-dramatic,” Sass said that she felt he picked the right song and Zack made a lame joke and then said it was the only real performance of the night.
Dwight d’Eon sang “Smooth” and it was okay. His guitar playing was better than his singing. Too bad this isn’t Canadian Musician Idol (hey - they should have that!). I found the music just drowned him out. Farley said that he really enjoyed the performance despite the fact that his voice was off sometimes, Sass said the singing, as usual, was not great but that the performance was good, Zack didn’t like his outfit but liked Dwight and Jake said the performance was great but that the singing was not strong.

Yikes!! That was bad. I think it’s a travesty that’s she’s still there and Greg is not. I wish the people from Nfld would stop voting for her. She’s hardly a hometown girl!!

Well I’ve got two more performances to go and I agree, no one is really impressing me yet. And the theme is pop-rock isn’t it? So far I don’t think I’ve really heard any. There had to be better songs that they could have chosen from.

Ozzy - so glad I’m not alone in my opinions. I try to stay neutral but some of that was just plain garbage tonight. Ugh.

I agree that tonight wasn’t very good overall, but I loved (I even liked his shirt, haha). He always chooses songs that I love, and he does them well. He was the only one who impressed me tonight, though I admit he’s done better.
I hope Tara, Matt or Jaydee leave tomorrow. If Jaydee stays, I want to hear him sing without the freaking twang.
Oh and does anyone else see a resemblance between Dwight and Kevin James from King of Queens? Everytime I see him that’s all I can think of.

Err, that should say “I loved *Brian*”.

LOL Kimmy
I have to agree with everyone else here, it was a pretty anti-climactic week. I agree with Kimmy that Brian was the best, but it wasn’t as good as he’s been in the past. I thought Jaydee was the most dreadful, followed by Tara. Unfortunately, I think that Jaydee’s fanbase is frighteningly large so I doubt he’ll be going home. *sigh*

Jeanne, I posted my comment before you added your review of Dwight. Are you sure you weren’t peeking at my blog?! LOL

Kimmy - LOL, I can see the resemblance to Kevin James (although, I also think Danny from So You Think You Can Dance looks like Topher Grace but I digress…). My son hates Dwight so much because he thinks he looks like a male “Cover Girl” because of his facial expressions. He showed me some clips for proof and I almost peed my pants!
Weirdgrrl - that is hilarious! What is going on with us? I love it!

I agree, everyone seemed to be off, maybe it is because their friend greg left, but if you love someone you believe in them no matter what, sooooooooooo go Jaydee go, lol

Well I spent two hours voting for Brian. He was the best in my opinion and has seen the bottom 3 way too many times. It’s always a risk for him. The unfortunate thing is that I got through 99 percent of the time. Now either no one is voting for this show at all or he just can’t seem to get a decent fan base going. I hope he sticks around this week.
And I like Dwight and think he still has a “blow us away” performance in him so I hope he sticks around too. Based on the performances, either Tara or Jaydee should go tonight but I think we all know that’s not going to happen. :(

I kind of liked Carly Rae’s performance, but that was about it. It seemed like the whole group had lost their… I don’t know. Mojo? They probably all know it’s just a sham now, as the best person is gone, and the second- and third-best people will probably be going home this week and next.
What’s the point of winning a competition that’s been compromised?

You’ve got a point there L. Maybe none of the rest of them want to win it now. They don’t want to be known as the person who won the season where all the real talent got wiped out early on due to regional voting or shear disinterest by the public. LOL. :)

I predict Carly and JD in the finale. It’ll be the final song that wins it for Carly. think so?
