Canadian Idol News – Dwight d’Eon
October 23, 2007 by Jeanne

Former Canadian Idol contestant, Dwight d’Eon is getting reading to record an album and will be performing at Th’YARC in Nova Scotia!
D’Eon has two shows lined up on Nov. 8 and 9. Both shows are at 9 p.m. and tickets are $21 for all seats.
He’ll be backed on stage by his band Never, only the band isn’t called that anymore. The Never name has been dropped and the band is touring under d’Eon’s name.
“We’re going to be doing mostly original music with a few selections that I did on the show and maybe a couple of more songs,” says d’Eon, who was a Top 4 finalist on the CTV televised competition.
more after the jump!
Each night’s performances will consist of two 45-minute (or longer) sets. Tickets can be purchased through Th’YARC’s box office at 742-8150 or by visiting the Parade Street location. The box office is open Tuesdays to Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and sometimes on Mondays by chance.
D’Eon admits some people may find the tickets pricey, but he says since they had to go with a smaller venue they need to recoup costs for travel, production and to make the event feasible. He’s doing two shows because of the limited seating at Th’YARC.
D’Eon had originally hoped to do an event at the Mariners Centre, that would have suited a larger audience, but the dates available did not work with his schedule.
“But I think people will be pleased with the performance and the production,” he says about the shows at Th’YARC. “They’ll get their money’s worth, I promise.”
During these dates d’Eon also hopes to visit some schools in the area to chat with students.
As for other performances in the area, d’Eon does hope to do a show at the Mariners Centre in the spring to coincide with the release of his album, for which he’s writing material for now.
“We’re looking to put something on at the Mariners Centre, something in the spring, with a bunch more local bands,” he says. “I want to make it into something that we can turn into a really big party.”
Asked about the material he’s writing for his album, the former lobster fisherman and West Pubnico native says while the sound will be somewhat familiar in terms of what people are used to hearing from him, there will be differences too.
“I’m coming back from the rock side a bit more, I’m coming into the singer-songwriter, not so hard-edged,” he says. “Some songs will still have a bit of that hard edge to them, that’s my sound, but there’s a lot more songs that are going to be more on the lighter side of rock with kind of a pop flare.”
And since Never is no more, at least as far as its name is concerned – it’s still the same guys in the band – d’Eon says he’s open to writing songs that don’t have to fit into the stylistic mold that was created through the band.
As for interest from record labels, d’Eon says he’s still on contract with Sony BMG through Canadian Idol until December, so he can’t pursue other labels yet. Although, he says, for the time being he’s content to go the independent route and make his own opportunities.
“I’m not waiting for anybody to come around and hand me something because the chances of that happening are slim. That’s just not the way the business works,” he says.
D’Eon doesn’t have a 9-to-5 job these days. His job is devoting himself to his music. But there are still bills to be paid and going into the recording studio won’t come cheap, although he’s exploring some grant possibilities.
D’Eon intends to go into the studio December, wrap up recording around February and release an album in May.

oh nooooo
well, he cant sign any contract until december 13th so he’s still got a couple months to go until he’s a “recording artist.” in fact, he’s not ever allowed to talk to any producers about signing a contract until then.
