Carrie Underwood and Randy Travis Duet – “I Told You So”
March 19, 2009 by Jeanne
American Idol winner (and Grand Ole Opry inductee), Carrie Underwood, returned during last night’s results show where she performed a duet with country music legend, Randy Travis. They sang “I Told You So” which is from Randy’s recently released album Told You So – The Ultimate Hits of Randy Travis.
I think Carrie did a great job with the classic song while Randy seemed to hit a little of that curse that I find many celebrities face on the Idol stage. It was still good but not a great as Randy usually can be. Also, can I just say that, while I liked Carrie’s dress, that thing in her hair was both distracting and unflattering.

I hate to say this, because I am not a huge fan of who Carrie has become post fame, but she just always seems to out shine who ever she sings with. Doesn’t she? I grew up listening to Randy Travis, and I love him to this day. He just didn’t seem to match up next to Carrie’s big voice.
I agree about the thing in her hair. I do think her hair looked cute shorter, but of course it isn’t really shorter. It was just tucked under.
“The curse”. Yeah even Brad hit a couple of bum notes on his song. I think what makes it hard is all the good contestants are doing their singing best..so professionals just can’t make one mistake at all and get nervous as all the audience can’t help judging as that’s what we do when we watch IDOL. Does Randy smoke? He’s looking older than his late 40’s should look. Also his voice was “raspy”
Randy isn’t really in his late 40’s. He turns 50 in May of this year. So, he is only a couple months short of 50 years old. I don’t think he is a smoker. To me, he looks just right for 50 years old.
I think that professionals are just themselves. They are famous, they are talented, and they are loved. They probably never claim to be perfect, and always sound like that. It’s just that Carrie is such a loud and strong singer. Most people sound less than her when they are singing together. Even at ther finale on AI, Rascal Flatts didn’t sound as good as she did.
“I Told You So” is one of my favorite Randy Travis songs but I was blown away by Carrie’s voice, she definitely carried the song.
Carrie did an amazing job vocally on this song. What is wrong with Randy? Is it just old age, or is he facing some health issue because I almost thought he had Parkinson’s or something the way he was singing. She basically stole the song out from under him and he was basically a back-up singer. Also I HATED that stupid thing in her hair. It looked like a tarrantula crawled up on her head and nested. LMAO
What a mismatched pair for a duette! They were completely disconnected. Carrie could barely look at Randy while she sang and he looked very uncomforatable singing to her.
He probably didn’t want to sing with her, but maybe AI made him. Ya know? Maybe part of the agreement to be on the show, which he would want to promote his new CD, is to have a live duet with an ex Idol. Maybe.
Carrie is great and such a beautiful woman. Most of the time she looks stunning but sometimes she can wear some weird stuff. The “tarrantula” (now that was hysterical, Jason, and I am LMAO,t) was about as strange as the scraf thingy she wore on her wrist with that off-white suit, was it last year? She is s sweety, tho. Oh man, still LMAO.
Well…I have to say (all the way from Australia) that I just loved Carrie and Randy’s song – which brought me close to tears I must add. Beautiful.
Um…Yeah, he has Parkinson’s. That’s why he a) was stiff, b) sounded raspy. He’s had it since his last album “Three Wooden Crosses” came out.
Brandon – Can you give us a creditable link that states this? I have looked all over the internet and I have not found anything creditable that states he suffers from Parkinson’s disease.
Randy Travis suffered from Lyme disease.
This caused him to lose his voice.
He did play a fight night benefit concert for Parkinsons though.
Here is the link about his Lyme disease

BTW I have both Randy & Carrie’s solo versions of “I told you so”
Have they released the duet?
I can’t find it.
I much prefer the duet version of the song.
I disagree about him being uncomfortable singing with her.
I thought he seemed very proud of the way she was singing by the way he looked at her.
They go way back to when he gave her the news of her Invitation to join Grand Ole Opry.
I LOVED THE DUET
Aloha,
I Love the duet I Told You So with Carrie and Randy. Is it available on a CD? I sure hope so!
Mahalo,
