Carrie Underwood Red Carpet, Performance and Win at 2009 Grammy Awards

February 9, 2009 by Jeanne

American Idol winner, Carrie Underwood, was an all-around star at the 51st Grammy Awards tonight.

51st Annual Grammy Awards - Press Room

She started the night by talking to Idol host, Ryan Seacrest, on the red carpet and, when Ryan started getting a little personal, she said “I’m not going to make out with you like Bikini Girl.”  Ha ha!!!  What a smart girl!

She also won for “Female Country Vocal Performance” and beat out Martina McBride (“For These Times”), Leanne Rimes (“What I Cannot Change”), Lee Ann Womack (“Last Call”) and Trisha Yearwood (“This Is Me You’re Talking To”).  The poor girl had so far to travel to accept the award for her song “Last Name.”

51st Annual Grammy Awards - Pre-Telecast Show

The best “Carrie Moment” of the night, however, was when she performed her award-winning song “Last Name.”  She’s come such a long way since her days on American Idol where she was such a stiff (but vocally-gifted) performer.  She was sultry, powerful and captivating (videos keep getting pulled so here’s a nice picture for now).  Fierce!
