CNN Talks About American Idol Label Contracts
Since it’s been a hot topic on this site, I thought I would put up this video about the recent American Idol-related record label deals and "droppings." They got Bo Bice to add some commentary and they included comments from Carrie Underwood which I thought was great. It says that Clive Davis quietly "dropped" 36% of Idol alums in the past year or so.
Check it and then discuss!

Jeanne, Katharine could have had a stellar career as a recording artist and actress but her involvement with Cokas will be her downfall.

Geez, pattispage, I’ve seen you put the same comment in multiple places, all over the net.You sound jealous of Cokas or something. Give it a rest, for Pete’s sake. Not trying Y to tell people how to post but sheesh.
Katharine put out the wrong kind of music for her voice and image, didn’t seem to interested in promoting herself as a singer, but more as someone who sings to get into other things they wish to do more.
She’s young, pretty, talented enough that she could rebound with the right material and with the interest of one of the major players, David Foster, she might. She’s lucky to have someone of that caliber; hopefully, she’ll use it.

Well, Bo tells it like it is - kind of. Yes, they have contracts which the label can renew each year or album, but when they don’t renew it IS being dropped from their roster. It means you willnot appear on their “roster” next year and it was their choice.
I think that Bo was bluntly truthful talking about how he was paying for everything and not having deep pockets. For all the people cheering that their person got out from under the label, there is the fact that they will not have label support for their next album unless they sign with someone else who will be looking for a marketable product and will have a say in the content.
It is a business, the company has to decide who they believe will bring them more money on the nextg album. As far as people claiming lack of support, if there is no perceived support after the first single or video, itr would be throwing good money after bad to show support the next one. Businees is business.
