Cowell Says American Idol Needs Changing

August 25, 2008 by Jeanne

The X Factor Series IV - Open Audition

American Idol judge, Simon Cowell, has said that the show needs changing in order to be more exciting.  Well, Simon, tell me something I don’t already know!  Interestingly, he was full of praise for America’s Got Talent.  "It’s the best because I think it’s closer to the format we originally wanted to make," Cowell said. "It’s closer to the show we made in the U.K."

Okay, I’ve got to ask whether any of you watch that show?  I try and I do find it entertaining but I just have never really gotten into it.  Plus, I am not sure I can take Jerry Springer crying over the touching stories of the contestants.  I know that sounds harsh and I’m not saying he doesn’t actually care.  I’m just saying I’m not sure I want to actually see it.

What do you think?

Simon also aid with Nigel gone, he would be more important! And he wants to put the contestantsin more “jeopardy” during the show.

Sounds like he really does not want this to be a singing show, but a reality show.

Whn the judges start picking the contestant to go, I am gone. (see shows that deermine who gets a role in a Musical, the way they select, the judges pick who ever they want and the voting is just for amusement

I am starting to think that Nigel knew it was a good time to leave, and, well, the extra money he gets from you think you can dance (where the judges select the losers until the last show).

I monitor the ratings and this year, the ratings were down o season II level – Not good considerig that is the year the show started to take off.

I watch America’s Got Talent, and I’ve got one big beef with it. They care more about showing the audience’s reaction than they do showing the acts themselves. I’m watching to see the sword-swallowers and contortionists… not people’s reactions to them! Ugh.

AGT is the one that needs some serious changing! Not that Idol doesn’t too, but I just can;t stand AGT.

Jean: Don’t worry, I doubt the judges will get to pick who is eliminated. Simon created the show, and he understands how it works: It’s AMERICAN Idol; America has to decide who makes it though, or you end up with a less popular winner. It’s not Simon Idol (even tho he wishes it was =])

I dont think anyone really gets into AGT, we just watch it to tide us over until AI starts again. But this season has been surprisingly good so far.

    I watch AGT.
    My beef’s with the show:
    1) WTFO NBC? Where the heck is the high def? What IS it with NBC and their lack of high def?
    2) With Springer’s history, I find him lacking any genuine feel. All his “emotion” feels fake, forced. Come on NBC, there has GOT to be someone who could have hosted this other than Springer?? How about Regis?
    3) TOO MUCH camera switching. I would like to WATCH the acts. I don’t CARE what faces Sharon or Hof or the audience are making, I want to WATCH THE ACTS!!!

And I disagree we watch just to tide us over for AI. I find AGT far more engaging than AI. AI is nothing but a singing contest, I want more variety.
