David Archuleta "A Little Too Not Over You"

December 16, 2008 by Jeanne

Have you seen the video for David Archuleta’s new single "A Little Not Over You?"  There was a lot of criticism over his video for "Crush" since people said he wasn’t convincing as a guy who is crushing on someone.  Did you find it more genuine this time?  I love David and I find it really hard to come down on someone for being too innocent but he just seems uncomfortable to me.  Surely, he’s hugged girls before, right?

Anyway, I don’t love this song but I do like it.  When I first reviewed the album, I didn’t have a lot of things to say about it and I still don’t.  I’m not sure this was the best choice for his second single.  What do you think?

I like the song and the video. He’s just a kid…he’ll grow up and I think the song is radio friendly

  2. Riza says:

You are right Deanie! he will grow up.
At least he can sing and is a good person too. Let us be kind to a 17 year old (going on 18) who is just starting his career and has NEVER been bad-mouthing people or heard using the F word.

  3. Dingo says:

I think it’s an exellent choice for his second single, it contains all the right elements, a great melody, a great hook and of course outstanding vocals from David himself. This is a much better song than Crush, and will be a bigger hit. As for the video I think they did a great job.

  4. Nancy says:

I think it was great. But of course I think all his songs and video are great. I think people should dogging him because of his age. HE IS GREAT

  5. MrsMaryfromNC says:

I think David is the most refreshing artist to come along in a long time. I love this song and this video!

  6. vickie says:

I love this song. I think it was the perfect follow up to Crush. It has a different feel and sound than Crush did. His Cd has such a variety of songs on it and showcases David’s amazing vocals. The video is more mature this time because the subject matter in this song is more serious. David did a great job. I have watched it over and over and I love it.

  7. Marisa Archie says:

I don’t know if we are listening to the same things here because I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the new single! And the video too! Way to go, archie.

  8. Taylor says:

I thought it was a good vid. He did a great job convaying the angst and pain from not being over the girl he loved.

  9. irus says:

I too would have preferred one of the faster songs such as Your Eyes Don’t Lie or Barriers or Desperate or Let Me Go.

  10. pastel says:

I think it’s a fine video, and the song is totally catchy. I suggest you may want to rewatch it, and tell me if you don’t think his camera solos – the sultry, “tortured” look, isn’t believable.

i think it’s a great choice for the second single. i love it.

I think the video enhances the song adding more emotions into it. When Crush came out, people weren’t sure about the potential of the song with the clean cut video. Look what happened to Crush. Listeners love it regardless of age, and the platinum downloads justify his status as a hit new artist. It’s so fun to watch thousands of audiences singing along whenever he performs it. A little too not over you is a radio friendly catchy waltz song. It will do well like Crush considering there are tons of lousy worse songs on radio hitting the charts high. My question to you is what song on the album could be your choice for the second single including bonus songs?

  13. Violet says:

I think the video is perfect. The setting is stark, contrasted with the colorful fun he had with his girl, and David looks the way he sounds. He’s looking at the camera a lot more than in Crush and David excels at looking into a camera. The commenters on Youtube love this video as do those on a general music board I visit. Hot video, great song.

  14. Linda says:

I have to agree with the majority of the comments. The song is definately radio friendly, as a matter of fact, I would not be surprised to see the single being used on SYTYCD or DWTS showcasing a Viennese(sp?) waltz. I think the video enhances the lyrics and meaning of the song in general. I love the song and the video.

  15. Patti says:

ALTNOY was one of my favorites on the album from the beginning and still is. I think it will be a great hit and his popularity will continue to soar. Absolutely love the video!

I love this video. It really looks like they all had a really great time doing it. David is very convincing also that his heart is breaking over this girl too. I think he did a great job. In reference to the “Crush” video, I don’t understand how anyone could say that he was not convincing as a guy crushing on someone. Check out the look on his face in the beginning of the vidoe when he first gets out of the car. He walks around to the other side of the car and makes eye contact with the girl for just a second. You can almost FEEL him catch his breath as he turns to look at the guy behind him while closing the car door after she smiles at him. The photos of him with the group looks like he was good friends with these people that he had just met that day. Then, again at the end of the video when the girl comes out to the porch where he is and smiles at him, the shy smile that he gives her sure looks like a crush to me. There will always be people that nit pick everything he does and compares him to other artists because, for some reason, that is what we do to celebrities. I for one, don’t know of any painfully shy teen that could overcome their shyness to do the things that he has done since his AI audition. David Archuleta has an amazing career ahead of him and it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy! :0)

  17. Trudy says:

I love this video and think this song will do very well on the radio. David is awesome as an artist and relates to people of all ages. I can’t wait for this song to hit the radio waves because I will be requesting daily. I am a total fan of David Archuleta’s and plan on supporting him throughout his career. This was his first album and I think it’s amazing concerning he had so little time to put it all together. I foresee a long future for David. I love the album!

    Palm to Heart

I think it’s obvious that people who never followed David on either “Star Search” or “American Idol” will get him And those who never saw him on the Summer Tour certainly blew the chance to do so.
David James is a 17 year old (almost 18, 12-28-08) who is in love with music. That’s it. He eats and sleeps music. And he is also a Mormon who has decided to live his life in a priestly manner. That means he respect himself and others. David is not going to make a video where sex is the topic that overshadows his musical abilities. He’s just not going to do that.
His videos reflect the meaning of his music. One of the few artists whose music and videos do agree.
We all have differing tastes in music, but that difference doesn’t nor should it mean that David’s music isn’t perfectly done. It just means you don’t like it. And contrary to popular belief, we supporters of David’s can be objective about his work.
Also, it’s quite possible David was never a hugger. He has said over and over that he never had a girlfriend. And if you read anything about his school years you probably wouldn’t asked that question. I would suspect David has quite a few things to learn about being an adult. But he’s a quick study. And he has us to support him.

Long story short. I love “A LITTLE TOO NOT OVER YOU”. It has been heard from coast to coast already. Radio play should be fun.

Crush was new and fresh and innocence just like
David. Great first video and the radio friendly single that he needed. Loved it very much. Now David has more experience ALTNOY is a little more mature with still that radio friendly tune but with an eddgy side to it. More emotion of loss with more open intimacy. It is still age appropriate and in David comfort zone. I like the song more after seeing the video than before.

The director who filmed this did wonders with mood and emotions and created a very fine start for David as an actor. As David mature so will the videos. Great job guys, you definately have my attention.

  20. Rebecca says:

David has a long long life ahead of him as a singer and certainly as a performer. The raw emotion he puts into everything he does blows me away. For a teenager to show such passion not only for the music he loves but for the people around him and life itself just amazes me. If David has this much passion for life and talent in music now imagine how much more we will see in the future. He can only get better if that is even possible. I love both his videos and every song on his album too. I do hope that eventually he does lots and lots of videos I certainly will be watching and buying them.

  21. Audry says:

David is the best thing that has happened in the music industry…He put a lot of thought on how his video appropriately reflect the emotion of a teenagers with crushes. The second video ALTNOY is equally thought out to fit the young viewers as well.
There are too many offensive music video out there now a days that I wouldn’t want a young kids to see.

  22. archangel48 says:

Everyone has a right to there own opinion. Honestly, I believe most of the negative about David is because people just don’t know how to react to such a REAL person. We are so caught-up in being accepted by others that we don’t see his kind of humble, endearing personality as something “we” should all learn from. He seriously IS what you see. Certainly not what most Pop singers are trying to sell these days. I look forward to David having a part in changing the way the World thinks and acts. He’s certainly made me think about being a better person!
