David Archuleta and OneRepublic - Apologize
David Archuleta performed a duet with OneRepublic and I thought he sounded better than their lead singer did! They sang “Apologize” which is one of my favorite songs from this past year. Check it out:

Thought the singer for One Republic bailed Archuleta out a few times in the falsetto parts of the song.

Archuleta did a great job. It just shows that he can sing well with any background group.

This was an awesome performance. I love OneRepublic and when David Archuleta walked out onto the stage to sing with them I almost started crying because I was in a state of shock. I cannot believe that Archuleta didn’t win after that.

I can’t believe there are still haters out there. I have watched this video MANY times and NEVER hear the lead singer bail David out…some people just don’t get it and it’s frustrating.
David was once again smooth and on pitch…and this proves his voice is PERFECT for this type of song…I can’t wait for his first CD. Did he sign with Jive Records?…that’s what I heard.

For me, this performance was the highlight of the night!!! David did an amazing job vocally and it may have been his best performance … and that’s saying a lot given the many great songs he sang. It was heart-felt, captivating and impressive!!!

The lead singer from One Republic should be embarrassed! He is a professional and I cannot count the number of notes he missed in that performance. If David A. did not walk out onto the stage to save the song I would have changed the station!

Oh, man. I was so hyped when I saw that David A. walk out onto the stage to do this duet. I just knew he was going to do his “thang”. lol
Which he certainly did. One of my favorite Idol duets ever.

Mr. P, get your ears checked out.
Srsly. David did a great job on this one. While I enjoyed (most of) the latter half of Ryan’s performance, I think he was intentionally over-singing David a few too many times. Still, the duet was great to hear + I’d jump @ a chance to buy a studio recording of their collaboration.

I don’t think Ryan bailed out Archie with his falsetto - Archie was singing a low/alto harmony line. I find it strange - people pick a side (whether or not they like Archuleta), and if they don’t like his style of singing, then they seemingly make the assertion he doesn’t sing well. That’s absurd. Even if he isn’t your favorite flavor and you’d rather listen to another style or someone else, it is still undeniable - his voice is tremendous. A talent is a talent - and Archie has an unfair portion of it (dang - why can’t I hae a little of it to sing like that!?!).

he did not only get signed in JIVE.. also in SONY, BMG. hehehe.. David archuleta will have an amazing carrer, cook i think will do well, as long as he does not get controlled by the record label like most of the winners.. David Archuleta, in my heart you will forever be my american idol

I enjoy One Republic and like Apologize, both versions of the song, now there is a third with David A. The notes in the song are very high and the singer in One Republic hit them and David A. balanced out the other side. I liked the performance by all parties. People are so critical of things they cannot do themselves.

yeah well too bad for you all music is actually my profession.
a 6-4-1-5 chord progression usually calls for harmonies, but Apologize is one of those melodies that carries itself in the progression. David Archuleta made a reslove from the 5th degree interval to the 3rd on a minor 5th?
No im sorry thats just unacceptable. He has a nice voice, but ryan tedder bad him look bad. poor kid. im sure he will be able to do vocal runs one day…but not today =(

May 23, 2008 at 11:09 am
oh wait haha you know the funniest part was when archuleta just kept repeating ryan…especially when ryan did the vocal run at the end on the phrase “the ground”…and the archuleta is like
“umm….THE GROOOUUND!”
lololol

May 23, 2008 at 11:43 am
Ok, mr. p, music is your profession. Feh. You’re still wrong on this one. He wasn’t just repeating Ryan…they were singing a duet of the same song, w/ the same lyrics. David did the low parts, with Ryan singing the higher ones. I found the contrast to be enjoyable.
Also, David Archuleta can’t do vocal runs…? Have you watched him for more than an episode? If so, that’s questionable, at best. I might not be a professor, but I do know David’s voice (+ have been a fan since the Star Search days). The boy can sing (and run) his little butt off, but–whether you’re a music industry pro or a layman–”good singing” is still subjective.
What’s more, it’s easy to claim expertise online, since it’s hard to disprove unless the other person knows you. I’m an astronaut.

One republic rocks, David A rocks. They made something bigger than just a song here, especially at the final duet. Ryan has a unique voice, and David A is a great great singer. Hope hi makes it straight to the top. Those ho don’t think he will don’t appreciate a true musical voice that can sing without any instruments along the way.
David A and thos who think he sang beyond imaginable wish you the best !! Cheers.

The lead singer of OneRepublic OWNED David A. I don’t know who MC is but the lead singer didn’t miss or flat a single note- he “did” bail out David A. on the 2nd chorus for just a moment on the falsetto, u can tell the tonal difference between Dave and Ryan and tell its Ryan taking the higher note. But regardless of all this it was by far the highlight of the show in terms of performance. Great song- 2 great singers, but at the end of the day that dude from OneRepublic outsings David a. and david c. AND he wrote the song himself. Idol is idol, it’s refreshing to see true artists on stage with them from time to time.

Jonathan, having watched the clip a few more times, I did notice a spot toward the end where Ryan seemed to be “covering” for David not hitting his high note as he attempted, but I think it’s a bit generous to say Ryan didn’t miss a single note. They both had some flaws, but at the end of the day, I didn’t judge this performance so much on technical precision as much as what it made me feel. And I really got pumped up over the heart they poured into this one.

David Archuleta sang great on the One Republic song Apologize with Ryan Tedder. He will make a great American Idol Runner Up and is in great company to have a successful career like: Bo Bice, Diana DeGarmo and Clay Aiken.
Diana DeGarmo has some great new pictures posted on her MySpace page. Definitely want to check out at http://www.myspace.com/dianadegarmo
There are some great messages on the MySpace page from LeAnn Rimes, Gretchen Wilson, Dolly Parton and James Otto.

Without knowing the technical aspects of the song, they both sounded great. I never heard of OneRepublic before and now that I have I will buy their CDs. Thanks for playing on Idol to introduce your music to more people.

Being neither a fan of David Archuleta or One Republicc. (Never heard of them before this) I felt David was far more interesting. His entrance was captivating and emotional. The lead singer being pinned behind the piano, I believe was to show the audience what we can to look forward to with David. It was by the far the best duet of the night. Also is the most popular on You Tube right now. I think the public speaks volumes and they agree. I truly loved David on this song and didn’t enjoy the lead singers falsetto on this at all.

I don’t care if Mr.p is Simon Cowell himself. David Archuleta was awesome! Mr.p’s profession may be music, but all my music teacher’s, school, piano, guitar, say that I have an ear for music, and I think David A. did a great job with Apologize. It was the best song of the night. Even though DC won David Archuleta was better. David did a terrific, amazing, fantastic performance with OneRepublic. I don’t care what anyone else says.

Fredo…”I’m an astronaut”. I love it! I get so sick of reading posts from no-talent know-it-alls! Archie added such a richness to this song, it was amazing. He got an unbelievable reception in the arena and, as reported from people in attendance that night, the only standing ovation from the judges.
His finale performances may have showcased why he was the best vocalist of season 7, but this “Apologize” performance demonstrated while he’ll also be a hugely successful recording artist. Way to go, Archie–well done!

Agreed, idolfan. 100%
We fans seriously need to harass David + OneRepublic’s ‘people’ until they agree to release an official track of this duet. ; )

I have a technical response to Mr. P’s technical comment: He attempts to “overwhelm” with information, hoping that using jargon will cause one to accept what he says without question. He also insinuates that the melody of the song carries without harmonies–don’t they all? After all, it IS called music theory, and a “professional” would know that.
As for the resolve, two tihngs: other than the first note of the resolve being slightly sharp, it was technically accurate, and 2) hello! Thirds are natural harmonic interludes in western music! Ryan was was both flat and sharp throughout the whole thing, and at the end of the second verse (when Ryan sang high harmony), he was horribly off. That said, I think I loved both of them, because I loved that performance.

Well, I dont really need to argue anything really because he lost right? lol. its so weird to see people thinking David A. was better than David C. well 12 million vote difference?? i guess mr. COOK OWWWNED. gotta love that guy…
oh ryan tedder wrote apologize and stop and stare….2 BIG hits
what has archuleta done….not win American Idol? haha
eat your hearts out archie fans…better luck next year!

i haven’t gotten this excited about a performance since… well, i guess archie started singing “stand by me.” but this was better. i thought i might need to be driven to the hospital. my friends actually started taking pictures of me on their camera phones because i was nearly hyperventilating.
and i’m NOT a tween. i just turned 22. and yes maybe i should be a major cook fan therefore, like my best friend who finds him “sooo sexy”. (a) i disagree he is NOT that sexy & (b) david archuleta has a voice that is incomparable to… well, anyone around these days, if you ask me.
paula got it right top 20 week after he sang “imagine”… David Archuleta is destined for superstardom.

Mr.p…. I haven’t seen much of David Cook doing anything that’s not American Idol either. Have you? David Archuleta is on an album Fear vs. Faith, and he sings both of the songs on the album and it’s not with American Idol. Just because someone doesn’t win American Idol doesn’t mean they don’t go anywhere. Blake Lewis got an album out before Jordin Sparks and he didn’t win.

David has what my husband calls “the perfect crunch” in his voice - like a guitar. I love how he crunches this song. For what it’s worth, to my ear, he owned Tedder.
