David Archuleta’s Dad Gets Banned from American Idol
May 12, 2008 by Jeanne
We’ve heard so many rumors about David Archuleta’s father, Jeff, being a stage dad and now it’s come to a head. It’s being reported all over the place that Jeff Archuleta has been banned from the American Idol rehearsals. He’s not allowed to be with David as he prepares for his performances and it’s not all the allegations of abuse that got him banned – it was a lyric change.
Last week, David sang “Stand By Me” during which he sang a little of Sean Kingston’s “Beautiful Girls” (Kingston uses Ben E. King’s original melody) and I thought it was cool but I’m guessing it a was a big mistake. Jeff told David to sing it that way, even though Idol told him not to and, as a result, it cost the show money (it’s really two songs that way, isn’t it?).
What do you guys think of this latest development?

It was only a matter of time before David’s dad was going to act up. I knew that if the rumors were true that he would eventually become overbearing and stick his nose in. It’s good he got banned though, he needs to learn that there are loving caring parents and then there are those that become obsessive and it just hurts themselves or their children. In this case he got burned. (no doubt he loves his son though so I hope no one takes what I said out of context as they always do)
It was kind of obvious that he was coaching David on everything I mean the boy could not even answer a random question. He is terrible at interviews if his dad isn’t there. Poor guy, he’s such a sweetheart. I wonder if its his dad’s doing with him only singing ballads, I really want to see David break out of the ballad shell and just go for the gold….he can do it!
He’s just a creepy, weird kid altogether.
