Idol Stalker

Diana DeGarmo Has “Gone Country”

by Jeanne on October 23rd, 2007

diana degarmoDiana DeGarmo has entered another singing competition. No, your eyes aren’t bleary - you read that correctly! The season 3 American Idol runner-up will be one of the seven celebs who will square off in hopes of becoming a country music star on CMT’s “Gone Country” reality show.

Let me just say that I am growing quite weary of these new shows popping up every day but I digress…

Anyway, Diana is in good company (please take that last line as loosely as possible) with fellow competitors Bobby Brown, Carnie Wilson, Maureen McCormick, and Julio Iglesias Jr.

In addition, Gone Country’s cast will also include former Twisted Sister frontman and radio personality Dee Snider as well as R&B singer Sisqo.

Gone Country will follow the seven musicians as they move to Nashville, TN for two weeks and are paired with an established country songwriter, who will prepare them for a career in the musical genre. Each episode of Gone Country will see the contestants participating in a challenge that tests them musically and also sees if they’ve been able to adapt to the country-music lifestyle.

Gone Country’s six-episode run will conclude with one of the seven contestants recording and releasing a country song. John Rich, who makes up half of the country duo Big & Rich, will serve as Gone Country’s host and will also determine which of the show’s participants will win the grand prize.

Gone Country recently began production in Nashville and is scheduled to premiere in January 2008. The series is executive produced by David Garfinkle and Jay Renfroe of Renegade 83 Productions. Marc Oswald also serves as executive producer. Melanie Moreau and Bob Kusbit serve as executive producers for CMT.

This sounds terrible. I’m so sorry if I’m offending anyone because I really don’t mean to. I just won’t be watching this but I’ll report any Diana news that I can!

Can you blame the poor girl? She sold less records than William Hung and hasn’t been seen on Tv since American Idol…what else is she to do after 4 years of being virtually M.I.A.? She should hook up with Kim Locke, Justin Guarini, William Hung and other rejects and go on a tour called “Reunited: Years later..and America still doesn’t care about us..”

Diana’s been very successful on Broadway but that doesn’t air on national tv or give her much exposure outside of NYC. She deserves better than this but I think her career will survive. She’ll just go do another play or musical.

Love the new Gone Country show on CMT with Diana Degarmo. The first two episodes were fantastic. Just saw the third episode on Friday, February 1, 2008 and loved it. The show featured country superstar Gretchen Wilson. The cast of the show has been featured recently in articles for Billboard magazine and People Magazine ( Country edition). Way to go Diana, great idea to do the show and also a chance to get back to your country roots.

On the show, Diana has been teamed with legendary country songwriter Keith Stegall and Shana Crooks. There are some great new photos of Diana posted on the CMT website as well as her own website. Will keep watching Diana every week on CMT in Gone Country.

Gone Country is great. All 3 episodes were excellent. Diana Degarmo performed great on her song Dreams in the 2nd episode. It is great to see Diana get back to her country roots. Diana just recently said in an interview in Atlanta. Her second album is just being finished and will be a country/pop album.

The Gone Country 1 hour finale will be shown on March 7,2008 and Diana will perform the country ballad Right Back Where We Ended which she wrote with the legendary Country songwriter/producer Keith Stegall and Shanna Crooks. Many people who live near the Nashville area were lucky and got to attend the taping of the finale. If you cannot wait until March 7th, someone did post the performance on You Tube.

Will keep watching Diana every week on the CMT hit show Gone Country!!!!!

Gone Country show is outstanding and Diana Degarmo is excellent in the show. The first three episodes have already aired on CMT to huge ratings.

A recap of the three episodes already aired:

Episode number one of Gone Country aired 1/25/08 on Cmt: This was the premiere episode of the show. The cast was picked up at famous locations in Nashville and were driven to the Nashville mansion in which the the cast would be staying. The cast was driven to the mansion on John Rich’s tour bus by his driver. Many funny scenes took place between Carnie Wilson, Bobby Brown, Julio Iglesias, Jr, Maureen McCormick, Sisqo, Dee Snider and Diana Degarmo as they were introduced to each other. The cast was then matched with top songwriters in the country music industry.

Episode number 2 of Gone Country aired on 2/1/08: The cast in this episode would be cooking dinner for John Rich and people in the country music industry using the recipes of John’s grandma. Many funny scenes took place in the grocery store as the cast shopped for the food and did the preparation of the food for the dinner. The food looked delicious. The cast then would perform at Fuel in Nashville that night one of their own songs. Diana performed Dreams and received many compliments of her performance from John Rich and Carnie Wilson of Wilson Phillips.

Episode number 3 of Gone Country aired on 2/8/08 on Cmt: This episode would show the cast spending a day working at the farm of country superstar Gretchen Wilson. At night the cast headed over to Graham Central Station an entertainment complex and would have a fun evening in Nashville. A special appearance was made by Cowboy Troy a very popular country artist.

The first three episodes of the show have been great. John Rich is doing a weekly blog for the show on the CMT website. Many great messages have been posted for the Gone Country cast and Diana DeGarmo.

Way to go Diana for doing this show and returning to your country roots. Will watch the show every week and cannot wait for your new country/pop album.

It sure is great to see Diana Degarmo on television every week again. Gone Country is an excellent show on CMT. The show is also showing on VH1, Tv Land, and MTV2. If you have missed any of the episodes definitely check out one of the encore performances. CMT has been repeating the shows several times a week at different times. The show is a huge hit.

The fourth episode of the show airs this Friday, February 15th at 8pm. This episode will find the cast of Gone Country hosting a car wash for charity and also visiting the children’s hospital in Nashville.

The Gone Country cast has been featured several times in Country Weekly magazine. Definitely check out all of the great news on Diana Degarmo on her website at (www.dianadegarmo.com) We will all be on the lookout for her forthcoming country/pop album.

Gone Country is sure an excellent show on CMT. I cannot wait to watch the new episode on Friday night. Way to go, Diana Degarmo for doing this show.

I love the song Right Back Where We Ended that you recorded for the Gone Country Finale that will be shown on March 7th. The song will be a huge country hit song.

Diana, you did a great job on the Zaxby tv commercials that are currently showing for the southern fast food chain.

Love Gone Country. The show is great.

American Idol, Broadway and now Gone Country is a big hit on CMT. Congratulations, Diana Degarmo on the Gone Country show. The show is great. The cast is so diverse and it makes for many funny scenes that are memorable. Who would ever thought that Maureen Mcormick “Marcia Brady” would end up best friends with Bobby Brown before the show started, but that is how it came out.

Diana Degarmo really seems to have enjoyed her time down in Nashville it definitely comes across in the scenes of Gone Country. It is great that she has plans to pursue a country music career. She will be great cannot wait for the second album which will be country/pop.

The Gone Country cast developed as a surprisingly functional family unit, as reported by Country Weekly Magazine January 28, 2008.

“They’re saying I’m the patriarch,” Dee Snider of the group Twisted Sister says with a laugh. Maureen McCormick of the Brady Bunch and Carnie Wilson of Wilson Phillips share matriarchal duties. Bobby Brown’s the crazy uncle. Julio Iglesias, Jr. and Sisqo are the fun cousins and Diana Degarmo is the little baby sister. Of course Sisqo has been hitting on Diana. This was a great article on the show in Country Weekly.

Gone Country is an excellent show on CMT. Congratulations to Diana Degarmo for being on a hit show.

Diana Degarmo makes a great pecan pie as reported by the cast of Gone Country and John Rich. The food sure looked good in the 2nd episode of Gone Country.

Diana’s performance of Dreams was amazing at Fuel nightclub. In a interview, John Rich assessed the cast and he said Diana Degarmo has a great voice like Christina Aguilara.

Loved the scene with Diana Degarmo and Bobby Brown doing a country dance at Gretchen Wilson’s farm in the 3rd episode of Gone Country.

You can definitely tell how the cast bonded during the filming of the show. Bobby Brown was drinking heavily in both the 2nd and 3rd episodes and Maureen McCormick and Carnie Wilson really went out of their way to take care of Bobby. Carnie almost had to half carry him to the bus to make sure that he got their safely.

In People Magazine, the Country Edition ( March 2008) that just hit newstands. There is a great article featuring the cast of Gone Country. Diana Degarmo said that she had fun filming the show and that Carnie Wilson was the crazy auntie.

Diana Degarmo enjoyed living in Nashville so much while filming Gone Country. She is looking at the possibility of moving to Nashville and is shopping for property in Nashville.

It has been great seeing Diana Degarmo on television again every week. The premiere episode of Gone Country was one of the highest rated shows in CMT history over 10 million people saw the premiere episode.

    Feb 12, 2008 at 7:34 pm

Julio Iglesias, Jr is the featured star of Gone Country in Country Weekly magazine February 25, 2008 on newstands now. In the article, Julio talks about how he really got into country fashion during the taping of the show. There is also a great picture of the Gountry Country cast in the article with Diana Degarmo, Maureen McCormick, Bobby Brown, Carnie Wilson, Dee Snider and Sisqo.

In the third episode of Gone Country, there is a really funny scene between Diana Degarmo and Julio Iglesias in which Diana finds out that Julio likes to sleep naked. The whole cast joins in kidding Julio about this.

At the taping of the finale for Gone Country, Diana Degarmo announced that while working on Gone Country she had written two songs with Keith Stegall and Shanna Crooks “Right Back Where We Ended” and “Southern Sisters”.

Hope we get to hear both songs on her forthcoming country/pop album that would be great.

Cannot wait for the finale of Gone Country on March 7th on CMT to get to hear Diana perform live for the first time Right Back Where We Ended. This song would sure make a great first single from the new album.

  • Karen
    Feb 13, 2008 at 7:00 pm

Diana Degarmo has sure been busy since American Idol ended and definitely has not been missing in action. Some of her career highlights include: Her single Dreams hitting number 1 on the Billboard charts. The song was the third biggest selling single of 2004. She also received a Billboard Award nomination for Dreams for Single of the Year. She went on a USO tour with President Bush. She played Maria in West Side Story and then went on to star in Brooklyn. Diana then went on to play Penny Pingleton in Broadway’s Hairspray for over a year. At the end of her Broadway run, Diana announced she would be clearing her schedule to spend the rest of 2007 focusing on recording her second album. She would be in the recording studio and working on the album full time. In 2008, Gone Country premiered on CMT. It is great that Diana is out of the recording studio and will be getting back to making television appearances, singing appearance and doing radio shows.

The second album is finished and will be a country/pop album. The album should be release shortly, we are just waiting for the official release date. Diana already has a great first single from the album in Right Back Where We Ended. Diana said at the Gone Country finale taping that she is very excited about releasing Right Back Where We Ended and she would like to release Southern Sisters as single number two. We all can’t wait.

The fourth episode of Gone Country aired last night on CMT. The cast of Gone Country gave back to the community of Nashville by holding a charity car wash in which the proceeds would benefit the childrens hospital. Many funny scenes took place with Diana Degarmo, Carnie Wilson, Maureen McCormick, Bobby Brown, Julio Iglesias, Jr., Siscqo, and Dee Snider as the cast washed cars.

After the car wash was over the cast, actually visited the children’s hospital and played games with the children. The cast sang songs with the children like Old McDonald had a farm and colored with the children. A very rewarding day and experience for each cast member of Gone Country.

While on Broadway in Hairspray, Diana Degarmo began working with trainer Harley Pasternack, who is the author of the book the 5 Factor Diet. Harley is the personal trainer for such celebrities as: Jessica Simpson, Halle Berry, Alicia Keys, Mandy Moore, and Kanye West and many others. It looks like all of the hard work that Diana did with Harley paid off.

Love seeing Diana each week on Gone Country and can’t wait for her country album to be released. The new single to Right Back Where We Ended will do great. Hope that the video for the song is also out soon.

I just saw the 5th episode of Gone Country on Friday night and it was great. The cast of Gone Country worked with the legendary Manuel on their new country wardrobes. Manuel has worked with everyone from the Beatles to Johnny Cash. Diana Degarmo picked out a great dress to wear in the finale of Gone Country.

Really enjoyed the scenes where the cast learns how to country line dance. The cast did a great job performing to Save a horse ride a cowboy.

Diana Degarmo sure made a great choice returning to her country roots. I can’t wait to hear her new song Right Back Where We Ended. I am sure the song is great. I have heard so much about the song. I hope she puts out a video for the song.

Really loved the episode of Gone Country this week and seeing them work with a legendary country fashion designer in Manuel. He has worked with the legends of country music and superstars outside of country music like Elvis Presley. It looked like Diana Degarmo sure enjoys shopping and she picked out many great outfits for her new country music career.

The cast of Gone Country is so funny and crazy. It makes for great scenes. Maureen McCormick always seems to have the hard task of waking Bobby Brown up in the morning. She had a very difficult time waking him and his covers came off. A very funny line came from Bobby Brown when he said ” I can’t believe I showed Marcia Brady my log cabin, but I was sleeping.”

The line dancing was great to the song Save a Horse Ride a Cowboy. Diana is sure a great dancer.

Loved seeing Diana Degarmo in Gone Country. Grammy Award winner John Rich in the series shows the cast about a country way of life. The cast works on country superstar Gretchen Wilson’s farm. They also have to shop in a supermarket and cook a southern meal for Nashville’s best songwriters. Do a charity car wash by washing all the cars in the Nashville community.

The show definitely prepared the cast for a country way of life. Diana Degarmo definitely adapted well to a country way of life. She moved to Nashville after the show wrapped production.

Can’t wait for her to release Right Back Where We Ended.

Many people are talking about the possibility of a Gone Country cast tour. It would be a great night of music to see the best in pop, R & B, Country, and heavy metal. Diana Degarmo, Bobby Brown, John Rich, Carnie Wilson, Siscqo, Julio Iglesias, Jr and Maureen McCormick would sure put on a great concert.

Definitely hope this comes true a Gone Country cast tour coming to a city near you.

  • Gina
    Mar 17, 2008 at 7:28 pm

I also heard some great news in the talking stages. Diana Degarmo may be asked to be a presenter or will be taking part in the upcoming CMT Music Awards show in April. It would be great to see Diana on the show. The hosts of the show are Miley Cryus and Billy Ray Cryus.

Many people are also suggesting a Gone Country DVD with all of the episodes of Gone Country on it plus the extra scenes and interviews with the cast.

There is also talk of a Gone Country cast tour. What a great concert that would be with Bobby Brown, Dee Snider, and Carnie Wilson singing all of their greatest hit songs. And Diana Degarmo is always a great live performer.

Diana Degarmo wrote a great article for US Weekly Magazine on the top 9 the week that Dolly Parton was on the show. The article is below. (US Weekly Magazine Website)

    Top 9 Go Country!

Season three contestant Diana DeGarmo recaps the April 1 episode for Us

    Hello everyone! Diana DeGarmo here!

Wow, time has flown since my days on American Idol, but great things have come my way. American Idol really helped kick off some wonderful things for me. Life has been really busy and I have no complaints, but it seems that I have missed a bunch of the last few seasons. So, tonight, I actually sat down and watched the entire show!

For the top 9, the contestants worked with the amazing Dolly Parton. (I have to admit I am pretty jealous!) Ryan kicked off the show with a not-so-funny April Fools joke saying the show would not be airing. I almost had a small heart attack. Thankfully, the show did go on — and here are my thoughts on the contestants’ performances:

    Brooke White - “Jolene”
I was excited to hear Brooke sing “Jolene,” but I was a little disappointed. The arrangement was cool, but her performance itself was a little bland. I think this little “Jolene bump” won’t hurt her Idol competition career in the least.

    David Cook - “Little Sparrow”
David has been such a fascinating risk taker every week and it has paid off for him every time. I’m proud of him for his great vocals, arrangement of the song, and everything else in between. David is going far.

Ramiele Malubay - “Do I Ever Cross Your Mind”
I am sad to say, but this song choice was not very good for her. She has a beautiful voice, but that was not the Dolly song for her. Her performance wasn’t bad by any means, but it was as great as the others and they are the ones you are trying to beat. “9 to 5″ would’ve been much better.

    Jason Castro - “Travelin’ Thru”
It’s so nice to see another side of Mr. Castro with his song choice. I’m glad he picked something with a little groove to it. He has a very cool vibe about him, but he needs to keep stepping out of that box a little more each week.

Carly Smithson - “Here You Come Again”
Carly blew it out of the water for me. I was really impressed by how she slowed the song down and really showed off her vocals. She was of one of my favorite performances of the night.

David Archuleta - “Smoky Mountain Memories”
David is amazing - hands down! I don’t get to say this often, but he gave me chills! I’m glad they’ve got someone holding it down for all the young contestants. You go, boy!

Kristy Lee Cook - “Coat of Many Colors”
This is another prime example of how song choice is so important. This song is great alone, but it was not good for this competition. I think Kristy might be a little out of her league on this one.

Syesha Mercado - “I Will Always Love You”
Syesha could not have picked a harder song, in my opinion. She had a couple vocal bumps, but she made it through and did the song some justice. Good job.

Michael Johns - “It’s So Wrong But It’s So Right”
This was a very cool performance all around. Michael looked and sounded the part of a superstar. He will definitely win the sexy vote off that performance!

Diana Degarmo was interviewed by Seventeen Magazine in April at The CMT Global Youth Service day. The article is below.

American Idol’s Diana DeGarmo is back in the spotlight, and this time it’s for a great cause. Diana is the spokesperson for CMT One Country, a volunteer group that’s all about helping individuals make a difference. This past weekend, CMT One Country joined forces with Youth Service America for Global Youth Service Day, the largest volunteering event in the world!

Diana has been really busy helping teens get involved, but she still found time to chat with Seventeen about the event. “There’s not one specific goal in mind — it’s all about community,” she said. “CMT One Country has made it so easy to get involved, and it’s great to be working with them. The community has gotten me to where I am today, and I’m so happy to be able to give back.”

Global Youth Service Day, which took place worldwide over the weekend, offered thousands of volunteer events that illustrated the importance of community service. For Diana, getting involved in the community is a great learning experience for teens. “It really makes you thankful for what you have,” she said. “You can see that a lot of people need help, and do something about it. It opens your eyes to the world.”

How cool is it when celebrities give back? What did you do this weekend for Global Youth Service Day? Tell us now!
