Did Paul McCartney Stiff American Idol?

So, rumor has it that Sir Paul McCartney was supposed to make an appearance on American Idol last night but, obviously, was not there. It would make sense to me that he would have been invited since they covered so many Beatles songs. I didn’t understand last night why they sang all those tunes - now I do. TMZ.com has McCartney’s explanation. Here’s what they wrote:
“Paul McCartney is lashing back against rumors that he stood-up the “American Idol” finale last night (which was attended by his ex Heather Mills), after reports claim he screwed producers by backing out at the last minute.
In an exclusive statement to TMZ, McCartney’s rep slammed the idle chatter, claiming that “Paul was never scheduled or approached to appear on the Idol finale.” The rep added, “Even if he were, he likely would’ve needed to decline as he is in the throes of promoting the June 5th release of his new album. With that in mind, it would likely make it difficult to refer to him as a no-show.”
Uh-huh. Okay two things here. The first is that they continued the statement with “even if he were…” If he was not scheduled to appear, the rep would have said “he wasn’t supposed to be there. Period.” The second thing is that, if you want to promote a new album, why wouldn’t you think appearing on the world’s biggest music show is a good idea?
I smell a lie….

American Idol is a perfect place to promote a new album. What better than to do it in front of milions of people? That sounds fishy to me.

Idol has the bad problem of notify people without giving them alot of NOTICE, just like Bette Midler and others in the past. When you do a show like that it’s ashame BUT ICONS such as Paul are BOOKED. The season is done, so get Paul for next YEAR or Next Season Finale but do it NOW not notify stars the day b4. Come on they have a LIFE ya know.

Michele, you could have a point. I have heard other artists complain in the past. The only thing, though, is that it is extremely difficult to get permission to use Beatles music which means that Paul had some notice, I am sure. But, yes, they do need to give stars plenty of notice which seems to have been a real problem this season.

I’m sure Paul told them okay to use Music on Show but unfortuantely he was booked, which I know he was. So again I know it was last minute and I know he did not Stiff American Idol. Again AI needs to notify Celebrities way in advance. Like I said? These Icons have a LIFE and AI should know how busy these folk are, shame on even thinking Paul would STIFF someone.

You know this how? Do you have some sort of inside view into Paul’s schedule? It is possible that Paul was just busy, but you never know…

Hahaha, Paul McCartney, literally the most powerful man in music even after forty years, could have promoted his album on American Idol for sure, but he CERTAINLY does not need it. He doesn’t need gimmicks and people should not jump to such ludicrous conclusions and give the lovely, down-to-Earth man the benefit of the doubt. Do you really think that he is so petty that he would really stand 90283094802985090283048 x 10^904 people up because his (albeit evil) divorcee is there? Fat chance. He’s fine with or without American Idol, that’s for sure.

Im sure if paul was notified he woulden’t even want to come. Hes a human not a robot that will obey your every desire. I woulden’t come either at that age and his conditions.

The way the rep said ‘even if he were’ I think that was meant in a theoretical sense, proving how busy he is what with his new album. and If you were a huge hot-shot BRITISH star with so much respect from your country, why the hell would you want to go on American Idol??!!! Thats worse than going on a cleaning product advert!! I resent the fact that you think it’s all a lie Jeanne, because quite honestly, i’d turn round straight away and say ‘No’ the first chance I had if I were offered to go on American Idol. He’s not a liar, just very sensible in saving his golden reputation.

Do you REALLY think Paul McCartney; an ex-BEATLE needs a shitty show like American Idol? They wanted Paul McCartney, and who wouldn’t. He probably did skip it, to smoke weed, because he figured it would be better than being around all of that American bullshit.
