Episode #532 - Second Round
Okay, for the second round Elliott Yamin is singing “What You Won’t Do For Love” by Bobby Caldwell. The song was picked by Paula as a “Judge’s Choice”. Elliott did a good job with this song well. He’s a good singer in my opinion and I like his style. But he just doesn’t seem to have those amazing, stand-out performances that the other contestants seem to pull out every now and then. Randy said Elliott was a little sharp on the performance. Good song choice from Randy. Paula says this is the kind of artist that Elliott is, very R&B. Simon says it wasn’t the best song in the world, but it was his style and he sang it pretty good.
Simon has picked “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” for Katharine. I think this is going to be a great song! He’s saying that she could have the moment we’ve been waiting for from her. I sure hope so. I’m feeling a “Summertime” performance like Fantasia had last season! Things are starting off pretty slow, she’s going to start building it up and is going to nail this song! There it is! The lyric everyone knows! Perfect! Her voice is so amazing when she just sings a song and doesn’t try to over-sing or over-perform songs. This is her niche! That’s the Katharine I’ve been waiting to hear from again. Can’t wait to see what the judges say. But THIS is the type of memorable performance Elliott can’t seem to pull off and Katharine was in dire need of having tonight. Great last note too! SIMON IS A BRILLIANT MAN! Randy says “finally!” this is what he’s been waiting for, best vocal of the season for Kat this season. Paula says “soak in the moment”, her magic is when she doesn’t “go overboard”. Simon is very happy for her. “Single best performance of the competition to date.” ABSOLUTELY!
Not sure what the deal is with the contestant’s local mayors announcing their songs. Randy picks Joe Cocker’s “You Are So Beautiful”. This is going to definitely work for Taylor. He’s got the perfect voice for this. As Randy says, he’s an “old soul”. Let the “Soul Patrol” run wild on this. Perfect! It’s so much better when the contestants just sing the song. It’s like they’re not even performing anymore. They’re just doing what they love! I really think Taylor is going to start running away with this competition if he can keep up these great songs to sing. Randy says it’s a “great, tender moment” and he did the song proud. Paula says he looks like and is a star. Simon says it’s “so far and away Taylor’s best performance ever!” [I am a really getting sick and tired of the trite little remarks from Ryan about Simon. It’s just so flippin’ annoying]
