Does American Idol Have New Sanjayas?
Entertainment Weekly is suggesting that Kayla Hatfield and Drew Poppelreiter could be the next "Sanjayas." For the record, I didn’t actually mind Sanjaya Malakar that much last season but I can understand how some people might have been irritated by him.
I will come right out and say that I don’t think Kayla should have been put through to the Hollywood round but I don’t think Drew was that bad. They are memorable and sometimes that counts as much as anything else. I am not going to say anything until I see these two in action during "Hollywood Week."
Am I the only one who liked Drew? I didn’t think he was necessarily the best singer in the world but I think he has potential. I am really surprised that Kayla got through but the judges seem to be making some interesting decisions this year.
I really liked the premiere episodes. What did you think?

drew reminds me of Canadian Idol 5’s runner Jaydee……especially with their voices

Remember Season 4 - Carries year where they interviewed a farm boy with a big accent. It turned out later that the boy was a city boy whose father was a fire chief and the family rented a farm for the filming of that segment. Now, this guy may actually work on a farm, but it was interesting that his jeans and shoes looked new and when he wore a small undershirt he did not have a “farmer’s tan” where is upper arms were whiter than the lower arms. I just don’t buy it.
Something to consider is they need “cannon fodder” in Hollywood as well as in the top 24. The only problem is when the “cannon fodder” gets voted on and the supposed winners get voted off.

i think drew deserved to go to hollywood but i agree that the judges made an interesting decision with kayla. i didn’t think the vocals were amazing but you could definately tell she sounded nervous. HAS ANYONE ELSE NOTICED SIMON SEEMS, nicer THIS YEAR ? i mean he seems to have finally realized when to call it quits and when not to push it. its suprising, but sweet (:

I am in love with Drew!!!!! Simon just hates country music and Drew did an amazing job at George Straits “Check Yes Or No” That aint the hardest song to sing, but it sure aint the easiest. He deserves to go to Hollywood 110% I just hope that them city slickers don’t wear on him too much, and that he can keep his feet on the ground and one eye on heaven and not get all caught up with them hollywood types. Farm boys got it all, and thats all there is to it! That is what AMERICA is all about. I don’t think he’s fakin’ and if he is, well he’s got something coming his way. One thing us hicks/rednecks/farm livin people hate is people who try their hardest to be like us. It aint a fashion style, its a LIFE style. Good luck Drew and remember once a hick, always a hick! Yeeee Hawwwww!

I agree, I love Drew. He’s real. I’m not a huge Country Music Fan, but I like it. I think he did a great job too! He’s real and I like that. Simon hates country music, so he’s never going to say good things about Country Singers. Unfortunately for alot of the good ones of seen so far - they will be country (several girls). And Simon’s never going to like them. Why in the World they always have a Country Theme night each season when Simon hates it, I’ll never know. At least on Country night, I wish they would just skip his comments all togther - they get irritating. He does seem to be nicer this year and Paula seems sober - different season thus far!

I didn’t buy Drew’s “country boy” act either. It seemed way too forced. He did have a decent voice though so I wasn’t surprised he got through.
However, I do get the feeling Kayla was a mistake to push through to Hollywood. She certainly wasn’t bad, but I didn’t get a great potential vibe from her either.

Phew Matt…I thought I was the only one who thought his “act” didn’t seem quite right. but so many this year are “ringers” this one just doesn’t seem authentic really, good voice but not WOW…

Drew is soooooo cute! I heard he is only 19 not 24 like they said on his audition…anyhow I think he did really well I was worried they were not going to let him through. We will see how he does on hollywood week. I guess I have to go look for a video of that Kaylah girl though since I haven’t heard of her.
