Idol Face Off: Carrie vs. Gina vs. Melissa
Heart’s song, “Alone” has gotten lots of love over the years from Idol contestants. Here are just three of them - the winner will face off against two more at a later time. The first video is of Carrie Underwood (American Idol season 4 winner), the second is of Gina Glocksen (American Idol season 6 top 10) and the third is of Melissa O’Neil (Canadian Idol season 3 winner).

I know Carrie will probably win this, and it was one of her best, but her “deer in the headlights” look ruined almost all her performances for me…I was never much of a Carrie fan.
Gina gets all my love here. I thought this was one of her best, though ruined somewhat by the shrill backup singer.
Melissa’s is alright, but she doesn’t have the right voice for this type of song.

This is a tough one….
Carrie - I am NOT a fan of hers. She’s robotic on stage, and that ruins it all for me. Girl can sing her ass off tho. WOW! This song is the ONLY ONE I’ve downloaded from her, and it is still in rotation on my itunes. Carrie’s voice on this was spot on, but her stage presence - not there at all. Her smiles and scared faces really don’t work on this.
Gina - LOVE me some Gigi! Chick can rock. I absolutely love her performance - she is believable, she’s into the song, she rocks out on stage and it is beautiful. Her voice was great on that too, although I think the power in Carrie’s voice gives her the edge.
Melissa - I am really not liking this performance. Her voice sounds thin and tired, and her performance, not great.
So, for me it’s Carrie, with a VERY VERY close second for Gina.

Hands down Carrie won this one. She blew this song out of the water. Best performance of hers. I actually like the deer in the headlines look. I think she was just looking into the camera w/ her piercing eyes. I think its cute. Of course, I like everything about her so I’m probably bias. I mean Carrie could sit in the middle of the stage indian style and I would still love her performance because of her voice! The girl can sing!!!!

To the original poster, you can’t blame the back up artist for Gina’s weak version of Alone. Why? Because it was the same back up artist that sang in Carrie’s version. So if it’s the same back-up artist during the chorus, then the difference must lie in the lead singer’s ability to harmonize.

WOW all three were good, but carrie got my vote! Gina however comes in a CLOSE second. She really got the crowd into it. But Carrie’s amazing voice helped her win this one.
