Oh oh Jeanne, big controvery. Bo has a big fan base online as well…lol
This is the song that started Clay on his big ride and he deserved to win. His rendition is and was the best ever on Idol hands down, Bo sings it well, but Clay blows it out of the watch. I wish we had the judges comments for Clay as well. He blew them away too.

Wow Bo in another poll! Proof positive that he is an awesome performer. Win or Lose, Bo has my vote on this one. Whenever he sings anything, it is straight from the heart.

Once again, Clay has alot less time to sing his version of the song but he still manages to sound great.
Out of all the faceoffs so far I think this one is the most difficult. I’m a huge Clay Aiken fan but I really loved Bo too! It’s a good match up. They both sound really great, I give the edge to Clay on this one though.
I think this face off may be a close one!

    That boy can sing.

Oh, well, this is one of my very favorite Clay performences. Hands down Clay wins this. But, Bo, has always been one of my favorite contestants after Clay. Bo, sang this very well. But, for some reason when I watched it on TV that year, Bo sounded better then, then he does here a couple of years later. Not sure why. I do have to give this to Clay!! Clay’s voice just oozes with this song. It’s the song that drew me in to be a Clay Aiken fan.

Bo did a great job! but Clays voice just blows me away !!! I give this one to dreamy eyes!!!

Always liked rocker Bo, but I had to turn him off and listen to the beautiful voice of the very beautiful Mr. Aiken a second and third time. Clay just does something with a song. You know how you never like a song sang by someone other than the original performer…not so with Clay–he just does it better! He’s just the best!

Once again Clay has a much shorter time to sing, but it doesn’t matter. Clay wins with that beautiful, awesome voice once again!

Oh my goodness- two totally different styles. I think Bo sang it more in a “country rock” type voice. I love Bo……a lot. And I liked when he sang it on Idol. But as someone just posted, when you put it next to Clays clear voiced-powerful rendition, it does come in second. Its Clay all the way on this one, for me.

While I enjoyed Bo on the show, Clay’s rendition is without match. No one on AI has every matched the beauty of Clay’s voice….although there have been numerous good singers.

I have heard that Clay recieved 9 Million votes out of 12 Million cast after he sang this song.

Clay’s is the better voice and better version of this song to me. I always had a difficult time watching Bo carry around the mike and those sunglasses were offputting to me. I agree with Bev that if you include the judges’ comments in one clip, they should be included in all the clips you use as it just seems to even up the playing field, although Clay doesn’t really need it as in my opinion, he has the far superior voice.

  • jean
    Sep 29, 2007 at 4:40 am

No contest, Clay has the superior voice. His version will never be surpassed.

I thought Bo tried way to hard to make DLTSGDOM a rock song, and it’s just not. His mike dragging always annoyed me.

  • Sally
    Sep 29, 2007 at 8:03 am

Well, something is wrong here. I just checked the votes, Bo was ast 124 and went down to 120, and Clay was at 434 and went down to 383. How is that possible??

  • kit
    Sep 29, 2007 at 8:03 am

I never cared much for Bo on AI, liking Constantine’s rocker style a lot more. However, I think he did a nice job here on DLTSGDOM. BUT, who can compare to Clay? NO ONE!!! I don’t care what song Clay is singing, or who has sung it before or after, Clay WINS!!! Clay is a “Once in a Lifetime” talent. How lucky for those of us who “get” him.

I don’t even remember Clay singing this. What a surprise to know he sang it. Bo’s version of this lives in my mind. One of my favorite Idol performances ever. How pecurliar that there are all these people voting for such an obscure performance and so few voting for one of the most amazing performances on the sho2w. Guess people just don’t know about this poll.

  • Robin
    Sep 29, 2007 at 9:42 am

Who’s obscure?? Clay?? I don’t think so. Clay’s performence of this song, was named one of the best Idol performences. The night that Bo sang, it I cringed, wondering what was he thinking, doing a song Clay had done? Now, remember, I like Bo, very much. And, I remember liking the performence, that night. When I listen to it here, it’s not as good as I remember. I like it. But ,next to Clay there is no comparision. Clay blows this song out of the water. Gives me goosebumps every time I hear him sing it. Sorry, Bo.. but this really goes to Clay. You did very well, but the tone of Clay’s voice, brings the whole song alive.

Wow Clay gave me chills. I did not know he had sung this song. Bo is great too and very diffferent. I have to give it to Clay just because I am still sitting here with chills hearing it. Clay needs a new manager or something I would love to see him out there again.

For clarification, Clive Davis chose Bo to sing this song. It was judges night remember?

It’s Bo for me. I love his a capella and this was the second most favorite of mine. This is my favorite Elton John song and as Clive said, he did Elton John and Bernie Taupin proud by singing a heartfelt rendition of this good. Bo sounds good then and he sounds even better today especially for his upcoming cd which he is co-producing with Frank Liddell. I don’t think there was any change in his voice. I’ve been following all his concerts from videos provided in his fansites.

This will be forever a Clay Aiken song. I think idol stalker or any one is going to have a hard time finding a VOICE to compare to Clay Aiken.

Bo is good, but he’s no Clay.

  • jane
    Sep 29, 2007 at 11:11 am

Why is Clay smirking and smiling throughout this song? It’s not a happy song.

Yes, Clay hits all of the notes. I prefer my male singers to have a lower voice though.

  • Lori
    Sep 29, 2007 at 11:27 am

Clay has my vote. His voice, his humbleness and as Paula said one time “quiet confidence”, gives Clay the “it” factor for me and will for a long time to come.

  • sammy
    Sep 29, 2007 at 11:47 am

That was fun watching both. I’m not sure about which is “better”. Does it really matter? Both are singers that sing different types of music. They are not really in a competition in real life. I doubt that either one wants to sing the type of music that the other one sings in their real careers (not American Idol). It would be fun to see Clay sing the Allman Brothers’ Whipping Post though.

  • Robin
    Sep 29, 2007 at 1:40 pm

I think many would be very surprised at the wide range of songs Clay can sing. He is not in just one genre. He has proven time and time again, he can sing any song, from any type of music. I would love to hear Clay sing Whipping Post. He’d do wonderful!

  • Kayla
    Sep 29, 2007 at 1:50 pm

Bo is very much a likeable due with a great voice. The song I believe he knocked out of the ball park was “Whippin Post”~!!
Clay , however lays claim to this song as far as vocal ability ~!! He does justice to any and all songs .
I don’t understand the sunglass on Bo though ?? Maybe he was wishing the sun would go down ?

  • Juana
    Sep 29, 2007 at 1:59 pm

Well I heard Bo’s version and he did a pretty good job with the song. Then I heard Clay sing it and he did amazing!
They both did a good job in their own versions, but I gotta admit that evennthough Clay had less time to sing the song, I looooved his version much more! =]

    My vote goes to Clay.

  • Linda
    Sep 29, 2007 at 2:22 pm

Nobody has ever sung on AI like Bo Bice! I love Bo’s version, it was full of soul, heart and life! He has the depth of a man when he sings it and you know he’s not a boy, like Clay…he has my vote now and forever! Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me…Bo Bice is best!

  • Julia
    Sep 29, 2007 at 2:28 pm

I always liked Bo, and granted, their styles are different, but Clay wins this one in a walk. His voice is so stirring and distinctive, he just sweeps you off your feet and draws you in. Fantastic.

  • Lori
    Sep 29, 2007 at 3:13 pm

I had not heard Bo’s version and I watched and listened to it carefully. What is funny is my first thought was, why is the rocker dude singing this song so ploddingly. Clay Aiken (not usually known as a rocker) has better pacing and pulls off a great vocal here- his voice really is like spun gold.

  • irs1024
    Sep 29, 2007 at 4:02 pm

Bo Bice wins this one whether in the number of votes or not. He sang the song true to it’s roots and it sounds awesome. Clay gave it a good try but kinda fell short of the prize. I’ve never been fond of people who feel they can improve on perfection. They always fall short. This song was perfect just the way it was originally done by Elton John all those years ago and Bo did it justice.

    Sep 29, 2007 at 4:15 pm

Clay sang this a few times on AI. He repeated it for the Wildcard round, and then came back and sang it on the Season 5 finale.
I thought Bo’s version was dull in comparison. Clay really gives the song some life, his voice is amazing.

  • Chris

Aiken gets my vote. That voice is something else! Best I’ve heard in years.

  • Karen

Always like Bo but Clay’s version is beautiful; gives me chills when I hear his voice. Clay’s version is better!

  • carol
    Sep 29, 2007 at 7:51 pm

Hey, remember that Clay was just a “boy” during that AI season…and wow has he blossomed into one sexy hunk now. But the purity of Clay’s voice was there even as a teenager–even before the AI season. No one can bring that to the table–let’s face it, Clay is one in a million. Sorry, I don’t think a guy with hair longer than most women prancing around a stage dragging a mike looks “like a man” to me. Nor would that appearance make him sound better than Clay who definitely has the better voice, range, and charismatic performance. I can’t wait to watch the American Idol Rewind series coming up where they’ll show Season Two, and I can watch “baby” Clay again. I heard he’s going to be doing a lot of the narration. No wonder — the man can actually talk (he’s really smart and witty), which is more than a lot of so-called stars can actually do outside of the comfort zone of their recording studios.

I love Bo Bice, he sings my kind of music as I love rock and he’s so cool. This, however, was the first song I ever heard Clay Aiken sing and although he’s not normally the type of singer I’d follow, his version stunned me, his voice makes me cry and something happened to me that night, I’ve not been the same since and cannot go a day without hearing his voice. It mesmerizes me. Clay wins, but I love ya, Bo.

Bo has the best voice of anyone I’ve heard in a long, long time. However I know there are a lot of Clay Aiken fans around, as reflected in the numbers. Doesn’t matter - Bo will always be a winner, in looks, voice, charm, intelligence. everything.

I always liked Bo and think he is a genuinely nice man. I guess my only problem is that with his looks including the super long hair, to me he definitely fits into the the rocker image for me, which limits him a bit for me in what he seems comfortable singing in other genres of music. I do think he was mismanaged coming out of Idol and with that and his medical problems, I think he’s been held back some. I hope he can break out. But then they always compare the second place winner to the first place winner and in Bo’s case, being pitted against Carrie is not easy. Clay came out better on that deal because his success overshadowed Ruben’s, the first time the runnerup came out ahead. Following that, expectations for Bo might have been too high, especially with Carrie’s mega success. Just my opinion. I hope they all do well.

Clay is no longer a boy! Now when he performs live he burns up the stage with that IT factor pouring from every pore of his body! and His voice.. that range..it will leave you breathless.

Bo has the best version of this song, even better than that of George Michael’s version. It’s soulful and beautifully sang, just the right mix without the vocal acrobatics. My heart just melts at the onset of the first line.

  • Patti

I had forgotten Bo’s version and actually I was quite impresseed. I Liked it! He gave a completely different flavor to it. Well done Bo even though his style his not my cup of tea.

Gotta say I voted for Clay and maybe it is because one of the producer’s said “When clay sang “DLTSGDOM” they knew they were standing in front of a Star!”. And I have to agree, after that night I knew this guy had sometime really special and different.

Clay’s voice is golden……he made this song new for me again…….

I have nothing against Bo…..he is a nice guy who is doing his best to make it in an industry that is really tough…..and he has had his share of disappointments…

DLTSGDOM by Clay is just a 1,000 x’s better than any version I have heard sung in a long time!

Bo is okay but Clay is always the best to me no matter what he’s singing.

I swear to God the same person is writing all these raves about Clay! OMG!!! Same style and same old same old…those people are very strange…

    Oct 2, 2007 at 6:47 pm

Well, I know I am just me. And, I have only posted under me. There just happen to be a lot of fans who LOVE Clay and his voice. But, many of us do like Bo too. Nothing strange about that.

  • Dan

Good thing too. If I had to pick one’s life and career over the other, I’d rather be Clay.

  • carol
    Oct 3, 2007 at 2:56 pm

Linda, go on the internet more and see how many fansites Clay has–many–and thousands of avid fans even internationally. Not fair to say it’s one person writing all of these; in fact, this is fairly mild and the fans are voting but not writing in. Clay is huge–check him out and you’ll see. Go on Youtube and see how many videos you can find–lots and lots! Clay continues to be hot AND here to stay!

  • Sally

Well, with AI2 rewind those who want to see more of Clay will. Perhaps he will garner attention from folks who missed him the first time around. He has matured and his voice is richer- but he still had that wonderful voice at the outset.
Bo- I love Bo too. I loved him the season he was on and I voted for him to win. Carrie is good, but there was something about Bo. That said, the poor guy had such a hard time physically, and I dont think he got the support he deserved from the label. I like his voice, its a rocker type voice-and I can appreciate the two different styles from these two wonderful performers.
Clay didnt get support either, and I am glad that they both are doing well considering all that.
But-Clays voice IS the better one of these two renditions, and so I voted for him.

No one has a chance against Clay. All anyone needs to enjoy a concert is a wonderful orchestra. a microphone and Clay Aiken. His Xmas concerts last year were the BEST!

    Once again it is Clay.

Now that Season 2 Rewind is starting many who didn’t follow AI until later will see how this man blew each song away every week. He did it without all the pomp and fanfare there is now.
All he had to do was hit the stage and sing.

The celebrity judges were in awe each week he sang and his fans STILL feel the same.
