Wow, I’d forgotten how amazing Clay was doing this song. One of my favorite performances of his.
Too bad the judges remarks weren’t on Clays video as well. I think this was the one where Simon said he was more suited for Broadway. Looks like Simon was right…but not before Clay sold in excess of 6 million records and collected several awards.
Good luck Clay, your fans will still be ‘right here waiting’.

Has to be Clay! The ending was amazing! Sorry, but Savol always gave me the creeps.

I can’t stand Scott!!! There was something about him that I did not like. I could sense that he was not a person I would EVER want to be a friend with. Now, Clay, I love so much! He has the heart! I also heard something about Scott abusing a girl friend or …… Clay loves people of all ages and abilities and has shown it in his music and UNICEF work. He is a person of faith and trust!!!!!!!

WOW! Scott Savol had to work so hard to get through that- he was really out of breath at the end of it- Clay’s was effortless.

I am so sorry for my comment about Scott! That was NOT very nice at all! Please forgive me! To make it that far means that you have incredible talent and that is the ONLY thing I should have said! There are rumors about everyone and that’s what they are— not based on anything. Both have great voices! Again- Sorry!

Ok.. really.. is there ANY DOUBT???

I feel Sorry for Scott being put up against Clay. He has NO CHANCE!

Clays voice is so pure, powerful and I mean, just listen to the ending.. NO ONE CAN MATCH or COME CLOSE to the Talent Clay has..

Sorry Scott.. Clay wins this one AGAIN.. HANDS DOWN!

Oh, Clay still takes my breath away! It’s almost unfair to put any other idol up against Clay. What chance do they have? Not a one! His voice is like no other….so powerful, so touching, so gorgeous!

this song was scott’s song & i think he was better off than clay. clay has a powerful voice & he’s very good but watching the youtube video, i will have to give credit to scott, he was feeling the “groove” while clay just stood there & didn’t move much. sorry to if i offended any clay fans, i like clay too. he’s an awesome guy!

scott knew this song from the heart & it was a fun song for him, did anyone see paula & randy dancing???? that meant they felt the “groovy jive” scott did a terrific job, with the ending ie pounding his kneee/elbow kinda thing! GROOVY MAN!!! :)

Oh my, not even close.Scott had some pretty decent performances. But thats about it. Clay sang this really, really great. Once again, not much time but still in the time given he was incredibly good. Hard to beat the guy, he can sing like very few.

Scott did such a tremendous job on this as well as his other Idol performances. Clay is a talent, but is not someone I enjoy viewing or listening to. I am appalled at the wierd personal comments about someone as nice and talented as Scott…love him !

  • lulu
    Oct 20, 2007 at 7:33 am

At that point in the competition Clay didn’t have to move. He had us all at “Mah name’s Clay Aiken”. lol
Seriously, his voice from the start was amazing but the tranformation in his look from week to week was mesmerizing.

clay had a great transformation & powerful voice. he reminds me of barry manilow. i love his ballad songs but when it came to choosing which of the 2 did better, i’d say scott did. it was fun seeing his goofy side in the intro (john travolta dancing). when i see paula stand up & feeling his performance & then dragged randy to dance too, it meant that she enjoyed his performance a lot & randy did too.

don’t get me wrong clay fans, i also like clay, i thought he should’ve won vs reuben. but judging on this “everlasting love” competition, scott did a better performance.

Ok so it was not a good idea for me to watch Clay’s performance first. Because after I was done and started watching Scott, I wanted to stop it and watch Clay’s again.. hahaha

Let’s remember, it’s a singing competition. Clay hands down.

I liked Scott and I think his voice was good.
Clay on the other hand I love and think his voice is wonderful, beautiful, fantastic, I could go on and on but I think y’all know what I think about Clay’s voice so I’ll stop.

i thank you margaret for your kind words. scott’s not a mean person, he’s very humble & soft spoken. people who want to visit his hometown are always welcome by his family & friends. so for others, give him a break! he’s a spiritual person too & wants every idol like himself to succeed in this music industry. i’m very happy for clay, kelly, carrie, chris, etc… who made this far. they’re all trying to achieve their dream of making IT. someone like ashlee simpson who tries to downgrade the idols (ie blake) should be the one you all need to attack. she’s saying all idols (ALL IDOLS) don’t have any business in the music industry. we know that she’s just popular clinging to the bosom of her other popular sister.

so let’s all promote & enjoy the success of every idol. remember everyone is here to achieve their dreams :)

    PEACE!

Two of the best singers ever to appear on Idol!

Clay’s performance was the highlight of the week for me, yet Scotty The Body really sold it in his season. Scott put a wow factor into the song.

I’ve been lucky enough to see both of these sweet guys perform live since Idol, and both are like buttah.

People might need to remember as well that during season 2 the contestants didn’t have near the freedom to move around, dance or interact as they did in season 4 when Scott was on. By then they even encouraged moving around and had a walkway behind the judges for the contestants to use if they wanted. Season 2 you were pretty much expected to stand there and sing. Plus Simon was still very critical then of those who did try to move or dance or “get into” their numbers. Singing wise, Clay wins hands down.

I love both of the two talented guys, they are two different people, two different styles, seems unfair to put one against the other, I’ve been to both of their concerts…but at Scotts… I felt he sang from his soul, he puts everything he has into his music and he touches my heart every time I hear him, I believe this guy has a remarkable talent, its one thing when you have a beautiful voice like Clay, but its another when you can touch the heart and soul of someone in your audience and pull at their heart strings. Scott has that gift…hes amazing!

I’d have to give it to Clay. I can’t even watch Scott’s all the way through, sorry, where as I can’t stop watching Clay’s

  • lulu

Scott was not a bad singer but he always seemed phony to me. Ruben was the “velvet teddy bear” but Scott was anything but cuddly.
Clay is a very good singer so I guess I’ll vote for him of the two.

    Oct 21, 2007 at 4:47 pm

No need for thanks oochie. I did like Scott and was disappointed when he left. He has a good voice. I do think that Clay sings much better, however. I am a big Clay fan, he stole my heart the moment he sang “Take”.

Oh, my poor Scott. That was just mean, pitting him against Clay. Kalan could stand his own pretty well, but Scott….not so much.

  • Lynn
    Oct 21, 2007 at 8:08 pm

I’m sorry but you may as well just give up on any Clay comparisons. Not to say others might have sung well but…

Clay nailed his performances each and every week and this was before they had all the smoke and mirrors you could add to your songs so it wouldn’t be noticed you really didn’t SING that well.

If you missed season 2 catch Idol Rewind. The group performances start in January followed by top 12.

I’m going to have to agree with Wanda. In my opinion, Scott has the voice of an angel. Every time he sings, he touches my soul and sends chills up my spine. I haven’t been as avid for any Idol since him.
He is far from phony. He was very much a take me as I am, kind of guy. He never put on airs or pretended to be anyone other than who he is. It seems unfair to me for anyone to judge his character without knowing him.
Clay sang this song well, just differently than Scott. To each their own.

When Scott performed the song in his season, I jumped up at the end and yelled “Wow! This guy could win this thing.” Then maybe I shed one tear because I was happy for him.

When Clay performed in his season, I jumped up at the end and I believe I yelled “He nailed it!”

I guess I liked them both… and still do. It’s a pretty good song. I sampled Carl Carlton, and both Idols had better versions IMHO.

    Oct 22, 2007 at 4:34 pm

Clay’s version had zing and oomf for me. I felt like I was soaring along with him! Scott on the other hand, while he may be able to sing nicely really fell flat for me. I prefer not to be put to sleep by the music I listen to. Therefore Clay can give me the rush I like to hear from my music.

Clay wins again. No one would even attempt to hold a note the way Clay does. He doesnt have to move at all.All he needs is a microphone and in some cases he doesn’t even need that to bring a crowd to their feet.

I have never seen Scott live (sorry not a fan) but I have seen Clay 4 times and the man sings with passion and pure raw emotion! He literally takes my breath away with those big vocals and outstanding stage presence!!!!

No contest here at all–Scott vs Clay….are you kidding. Clay’s beats the best of them, and of course poor lil’ Scott wouldn’t stand a chance.

  • aliricaba
    Oct 23, 2007 at 4:34 pm

Sorry, no disrespect to Scott because he does seem like really neat guy with a good voice, but this was no contest.

I have to agree with Simon’s comments on this one about Scott’s performance here.

Clay all the way on this one!

Clay has a one of a kind voice. There’s just something about the way he sings and the sound of his voice. Can’t really explain it, but I love it! So its Clay for me.

Clay Aiken of course!!!! Clay sang “Everlasting Love” like no other and the note he held at the end - WOW!!!!

No contest! Clay all the way.
Scott did not stay on the right key at any point in this song.

Clay is always on key. On the Money..

I wonder why the first couple of seasons of Idol only allowed such a short amount of time for the songs, it hardly gives the contestant a chance to show what they’ve got.

  • SimonSucketh
    Oct 30, 2007 at 12:57 pm

I think the songs get longer as the season progresses and people are eliminated. Leaves more time for those left to sing their numbers.

  • Roni
    Oct 31, 2007 at 7:00 am

Honestly, I was rooting for Scott while so many others were putting him down. However, when he started to sing “Everlasting Love”, I thought “bad idea” cos Clay sang it and he nailed it! After Scott sang, I felt his performance confirmed what I felt from the start.

I didn’t know about the other guy, poor guy. He shouldn’t be put against Clay. I mean… Come on. Clay kicks but. But he kicked the other guy’s but real hard in this face off.

Why does Clay Aiken yell his songs? Most of us aren’t deaf.
