Idol Face Off – I Don’t Wanna Be
September 26, 2007 by Jeanne
American Idol contestants Chris Richardson, Elliott Yamin and Bo Bice all sang “I Don’t Wanna Be.”
Who isn’t a Wannabe?
Chris Richardson
Elliott Yamin
Bo Bice (sorry, this video is long and out of sync but it was the best I could find. The audio is good, though).

Bo wins this face off for me hands down. Chris Richardson sounded whiny and like a kid and though Elliott can sing this was not his best, but Bo Bice sang this song with the rich fullness of a true rock star!
Bo wins this one by a mile!
Elliott all the way!
Great Elliott Performance !! No one can come close to the voice of Elliott !
I have to go with Elliott on this one! Love his voice and his progression on American Idol was great to watch. He just kept getting better and better all the time.
Bo really made this song come alive!
How can you even compare!!! Bo sings this song as it was meant to be.
Although I do enjoy Elliott, their renditions are elevator music.
Chris seems like a swet kid, but he sings in taht “nasally” style. Elliot has a nice tone, but this was so not his type of song, so I vote for Bo who had the rock edge in his voice for this song. .
Richardson hands down. I’m not even feeling Bo’ version. Elliot comes in 2nd.
Chris is a non-starter.
I’m a rockhead so I thoroughly enjoyed Bo’s performance. But there’s just something about Elliott’s voice that grabs the musician in me.
So performance – Bo
Vocals – Elliott
Bo all the way. His voice and performance was so amazing. For me, no contest. Everyone see or hears something different. Nothing against the others, I just think Bo outdid them.
Crich sucks. Bo was nice. Elliott’s version isn’t rock, but it’s the best!!
Bo of course. I didn’t even remember the other 2 until I saw the video here.
No brainer, Bo Bice wins this by many miles. He is even better than the originating artist IMHO. Chris and Elliott are OK, but Bo was the master of this song.
While Elliott’s vocals were technically better, it is Bo who wins this one, hands down.
Bo has got the right mix of soul and rock for this song. The hard edge he brings to it makes it come alive. He sings it like he had written it, he sings it like it is HIS song. Yes, his voice faltered on the highest notes… But as a whole, as a package, his vocals/performance and “believeability” factor makes his rendition of the song the best of the three.
I do love Elliott and think he did well on the song, as did Chris Rich (love him, too). I just don’t think that song was a good fit for neither of them.
chris whined and bo over did it. Elliott was amazing
Bo all the way, although I like Elliot too.
All 3 are great guys but when it comes to vocals no one does it better that Elliott!
Elliott’s version of “I don’t want to be ” is packed with energy and whoa, he gave new life to this song. Love Elliott because he can switch it up, and also make it so different he makes it his own!! Elliott can do it all, make it soulful, electric and original. This guy is fantastic!
It’s Elliott Yamin all the way!! Wowza!
His voice is totally amazing!
‘ONE WORD’…..Elliott is AMAZING!
Elliott (AKA “Funky White Boy”) OWNS this song — he really took Gavin’s song, added his own flavor, and made it something special. Elliott has so much soul and can rock right along with the best of them!!!
Elliott is awsome, just love his singing. I dont vote often on AI but I did for Elliott. And now here.
