Idol Face Off – “I Have Nothing”
September 6, 2007 by Jeanne
It’s the battle of the American Idol divas! Here is a four-way face off between Jennifer Hudson, Vonzell Solomon, Katharine McPhee and Lakisha Jones.
LOL at the end of Kat and Lakisha’s videos because right near the end of the song, they show a family member proudly crying.
Jennifer Hudson
Vonzell Solomon
Katharine McPhee
Lakisha Jones

I voted for Vonzell, but the poll is missing my girl, Trenyce
Oh Geoff – no worries. The winner of this poll is going to face off against 2 more divas singing this song (one from American Idol another from an international one).
Trenyce is incredible
These are all better than Whitney’s, but I voted for Kat.
All the way for kat
Definitely Katharine, she knocks this one out of the park.
Without question Katharine! Very underrated performance by her from the judges. She blew it out the box!! And the “Yellow Dress” WoooHooooo!!!
go jennifer
McPhee by a longshot – the others don’t even come close.
Katharine by far, loved it and after the judges got to go back and rewatch it, they loved it too. Simon even apologized. : )
Jennifer’s lower register is not sounding great on this.
I had forgotten Vonzell doing that song. She sounds great but breathless at the end….
Kat’s pageanty smile really bugs me on this. She doesn’t understand what she is singing and it shows. Her higher register is painful on this.
I hate this song. And after watching/listening to it 4 times in a row… Ugh.
But…
Lakisha gave me goosebumps with this. Her voice is rich, full of soul, her lower register a bit shaky in the very low notes, but her higher register is strong, convincing and just plain amazing. She had the proper emotion and passion for this song.
Lakisha all the way!
Katharine all the way! She knocked this one one out of the park!
Kat is 2nd to none with this song.. Simon was man enough to admit his mistake
My favorite was Katharine’s. She took the song and made it her own. Least favorite would definitely be LaKisha Jones. Vonzell and Jennifer Hudson both did well with the song.
Jennifer Hudson all the way !!
They all had there high points and low points with the song. If I’m going to give to somebody I pick Katharine. I feel she had the best arrangement with the song. She struggle with the higher register, but overall it was a great performance. I’m not really big on the powerhouse voices like Lakisha and Jennifer, it’s just not for me.
I always loved the way Kat did this song and I never understood why there was any criticism at all. She did a beautiful job on it and then when she sang it at the Carousal (sp?) Ball, it was even better, if possible.
My favorite was Jennifer Hudson. She was far superior. My least favorite was Katharine. It sounded way too whiny, and she missed a lot of notes.
OMG, Lakisha is so horrible…the worst of all the singers who ever take this song…Jennifer sounds like original, but I miss something her own, Katharine is definitely the best one, because she made it her own way, and she was not trying to be like Whitney.

Kat fans are cheating.
“Kat fans are cheating.”
No, we are just organized. Fans of the other contestants are welcome to post on message boards and encourage each other to vote too.
When I saw Kat perform this song on AI5, my mouth dropped. Not only was she stunningly gorgeous, but I thought it was the best rendition of this song I have ever heard. I still feel this way. The others were all good. Don’t get me wrong. But Kat blew that one out of the box, despite the lukewarm reactions from the judges. When they said the things they said, I was wondering if they were watching/hearing the same performance I had just seen. Now, as the world can see here, they were dead wrong
go Kat
I am admitedly a fan of Kat and I was tempted just to vote for her but I didn’t. I told myself to listen with an open mind and be willing to vote for the one that I truly thought was the best. I did that and I still ended up voting for Kat’s version. I love all the other singers but I think the key it was played in and the way Kat dramatized and shook it up with her own style is what won me over.
hm.
Lakisha- I’m pretty sure I loved hers during the show…but now that I watched it back it wasn’t that spectacular, damn judges. I wasn’t really feeling it.
JHud- I can’t say I’m a fan of her tone. It sounds just stuffy to me, not a favorite either.
Vonzell- Really good. But…idk lacks something special. nothing about that performance really jumped out at me. her vocals were great though.
Katharine- So comparing her to Vonzell her vocals weren’t all their that night. But performance wise she kicks all 3 of the other ladies buts. She made it her own and really changed it up. which I why I voted for her.
I was surprised, When Jennifer was singing, I wantedto shout “Enunciate!” – she had a powerful voice, but was slurring the words
Vonzell, sang a copy, but was not as good., especially at the end.
Katharine was pretty ‘thin’ compared to the others, I was surprised.
Lakisha was the best of the group, but I think Trenyce really knocked it out of the park http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXc-Il5Hswk
Go to Carrie’s IDF boards and there is also an announcement of her face off with Gina and Melissa. Is carrie’s fan base cheating because her fans were alerted to the face-off? No! Nor is the kat fan base. Kat haters know they are outnumbered by not only kat fans but the many others who voted for her during idol. These haters continually reach for silly excuses.
kool, katharine is beating everyone by alot.
