Faithful reader, Bev, sent me some links to Anthony Callea of Australian Idol (season 3, I believe) and I was blown away. I think he is fabulous. Today he will face off against Anthony Federov but he will also square off against Clay Aiken on Friday.

Anthony Callea is definately my favourite and I loved all his performances on Idol this performance was one of the many that gave me spine tingles. The look on the judge Marcia’s face in the clip, is exactly how it made me feel. I really enjoyed watching Anthony F through the American Idol series as well.
Hope you get to see some of Anthony Callea’s other performances as well.

I actually thought Federov sounded a little flat on a couple of notes, but obviously that’s just me because the judges didn’t pick up on “pitchy” and that’s their all-time favorite word!

I use to love that song…. It’s been done and done and done so much that … Yeah.
Calleas was definetely my favorite here, althought I do think Federov sang it well, too. Neither version of the song was great tho - Calleas’ needed more gritty guitar (this is NOT a pop song) and Federov’s needed a fuller band. Federov’s ending was also a bit weird.
Federov was a bit flat here and there, but over al, his vocals were good and strong. Calleas was flat in the very beginning, but then that’s it. I liked that he started with the lower, softer lyrics. I also prefer his tone to Federov’s.

Both Anthonys are wonderful. I’ve always liked Federov, but this was my intro to Callea. He’s mighty fine! And thanks, Siobhan, for the link to Clay’s version…he’s beyond magnificent!
I can’t wait for the Aiken/Callea face-off this Friday. Now, THAT will be some contest! I’ll be rooting for my guy, but Callea is going to be a CHALLENGE! I LOVE it!!!

Siobhan, it’s not fair to compare Clay’s post-Idol performance to the Anthonys Idol ones. Most of them improve tremendously after Idol, plus Clay had a full band, backup singers and a whole lot more rehearsal time than they get on Idol. Let’s compare apples to apples here.
I loved Fedorov’s performance, but I am glad he has never performed it after Idol. This song is so overplayed, it’s not funny.

See, this is what is so irritating about some of Clay’s fans. This is a poll between the two Anthony’s and has nothing whatsoever to do with Clay. He will be involved in a poll later this week with the winner of this poll. It’s Clay’s fans that sometimes try to force their Clay fandom onto others. And that particular clip of Clay during his concert isn’t even a very good one because he’s being silly a lot of time. There are many other clips that are so much better, but that’s not really even the point. I actually am a big fan of Clay’s but have managed to keep my objectivity when it comes to people’s likes and dislikes and to be honest, he’s just not everybody’s cuppa.

The Face Off will not be including any post-idol performances. I stick to Idol performances only. Clay and Anthony will face off on a different song :)
It would be completely unfair :)
I picked Anthony because I think he is a very worthy opponent so I hope everyone gives it a chance before they vote.
For now, it’s Anthony and Anthony!!! I loved these two guys!

This was one of Anthony Fed’s best performances on AI…..He kicked it real good!Love it the best!This was my first time hearing Anthony Calleas voice period….he does have a real nice deep tone to his voice….But Anthony Fed will always be my fav, liked both versions…

“The King of Vocals” ??? - ROFLLLLL I wonder what Claymates thing about it.
I listened to both - This Federov guy actually captured me at the end with that big note belted out, where this Cellea guy was a bit flat here and there, but overall, his vocals were strong.
They both were good.

Anthony Callea without a doubt! Federov was good, but a little pitchy at times, and I preferred Callea’s interpretation, although Federov’s was quite interesting. Loved the deep lush Callean tones!

Not a True Friend, strange though it may seem, this poll isn’t about Clay Aiken.
Anthony Federov’s voice is quite pitchy at times whereas Anthony Callea’s notes are pitch perfect.
Anthony Callea has a glorious, rich voice whereas Anthony Federov’s voice doesn’t have much depth to it.
Verdict: Anthony Callea is definitely the winner.

Anthony Fedorov for me!
His voice is so angelic and pleasent,clear, like a stream of the rainbow.
He still looks so young, his voice will get the richness when he grows up.
HOlding that highest note is very difficult and he’s been done it perfectly.
Is he the one who had the malignant growth around his vocal cord as a todler?
If true he must be a miracle having a voice like that!

Siny, I don’t really see the problem with someone posting a link to a video of Clay Aiken doing the same song during a concert. He is not part of the vote and the poster didn’t say anything to imply he was better or anything. I totally understand that what Clay has done since leaving the show is not and should not be compared to the show. That being said, the unfair advantage would of course be tremendous as you stated. But realistically, even the idol clips in many cases have unfair advantages in the later seasons, as they got to do a lot the early seasons didn’t get — including having live bands, having more time to perform, having the ability to run all over the stage, into the audience, on a platform behind the judges etc. The first 2 seasons were pretty much restricted to stage and a sound track instead of better music — not backups, nothing to make them appear better.
I did thought Anthony Callea was really really good. Great voice.
Just for the heck of it — not to win this vote but because I love this song and to see it done with absolutely breathtaking playing by an orchestra and fantastic singing, even with funny thrown in — here is another clip of Clay and his girls ganging up on his to both be the “duet” partner — it was amazing.

Loved the deep rich tones of Anthony Callea and the way he built the song from soft to powerful climax, then down to soft again for the finish. Great stuff!

Anthony Callea hands down for me. Anthony C has the best voice i’ve heard in years. Loved every single one of his idol performancers. There’s no other like AC. HE ROCKS!!!

There’s no contest here. Anthony Fed seems really sweet, but Anthony Callea really kicks it up 50 notches, he is simply dynamic. The rich timbre in his vocals give’s me goosebumps, just beautiful. There’s obviously a lot more US voters on this site, you really should have another listen.

Why did they do that. Oz Idol did it two years ago and removed all of Anthony Callea’s and others from Youtube, and took with it all the history, which was so annoying. Then a year ago they realised it was a good promotional tool for the show and for the artists and don’t seem to worry about it now.
Look at the Global fame that Paul Potts received instantly all because of Youtube, I wished it was around when Anthony Callea blew the nation away when he sang The Prayer.

I love the tone of Anthony Fedorov’s voice and he is to this day my favorite American Idol contestant. Anthony Callea is an amazing singer, although I thought he gave this song kind of a country flavor, rather than pop.
I thought this was actually one of Anthony Fedorov’s weaker performances. Listen to his “Incomplete” and “I Surrender” Idol performances to hear his best. He is a really gifted singer.

I don’t agree that Anthony Callea gave this song ‘kind of a country flavour’. I don’t hear that at all in his performance of this song, and maybe he’d be surprised to hear that too altho’ I doubt that he’ll ever know! I think this performance of Anthony’s is brilliant. I love the range of his voice and his voice control. He’s also a very versatile singer and sings in a number of genres. Supporting him all the way.

I am a huge Anthony Callea fan. Have his cd’s and a video of every song he did on Australian Idol. Probably the best male singer I have ever heard on any Idol show.
