Idol Face Off - Paint It Black

by Jeanne on August 31st, 2007

Canadian Idol season 2 winner, Kalan Porter, and American Idol top 10 contestant, Gina Glocksen both sang “Paint It Black.” Who did a better job? (The Kalan video is not great but it was several years ago. The audio is fine, though)

IDOL FACE OFF returns on Monday. Until then, check out the other ones from this past week by clicking here.

10 opinions for Idol Face Off - Paint It Black

Oh, I love me some Gina Glocksen, but I gotta give it to Kalan on this one. And I don’t like Kalan.

Vocal wise, Kalan was superior here. Gina was pitchy in many places.

Performance wise, I prefer Gina, but Kalan did well, too.

I do love the rock that Gina brought to this song, and I love the way she sings the chorus. There’s emotion missing in Kalan’s vocals, in my opinion.

But, because of the voice, I voted Kalan.

I never liked Gina’s voice when she was attempting to sing rock and this is just another example of why. She should not try to be a rocker, she just isn’t believable. The last song she sang before she was booted off was her best performance and it was a slow ballad.

So my vote goes to Kalan on this one.

Kalan by the proverbial country mile. He’s a fabulous singer and this wasn’t even one of his best. He’s going to be a very big star one of these days.

I have to agree with Bouffe on this one. I remember watching Kalan when he first performed this and I just didn’t buy it; I didn’t think that it was a good song choice for him. But vocally he was pitch perfect as usual. I was able to believe Gina’s performance more, but she was way too pitchy for me to really enjoy it.

He is so pretty. Kalan for sure, didn’t like the girl, Gina. She had an awesome drummer though.
