There is just no comparison. This was my all time favorite performance by Clay. He just blows this song out of the water!

I had missed most of the shows due to work. I finally remembered to set the VCR. There was some good talent on that show that night but that performance of To Love Somebody by Clay just blew me away. I became an instant Clay Aiken supporter and called in to vote each week after that. That voice was incredible!

I find that Clay Aiken sings a song with total conviction and passion. I personally love a song that doesn’t have all those runs in it like Jordan’s versopm. I think Jordan has a great voice, but I preferred Clay’s version and he has an incredible voice and wonderful phrasing when singing a song.

What a great song. And those were two excellent performances. Although, I don’t like how sometimes the backup vocals overpower Jordin to the point where you cannot hear her voice at all. I have to give this one to Clay Aiken. That long glory note at the end gave me goosebumps.

Watched both but could only remember one! Clay sang the you know what out of that song and that come hither look at the end. OMG!!! Clay has my vote!

Jordin does the song justice. She is lovely and has a wonderful voice.

Clay…he is THE VOICE. No doubt about it, he wins this one, too.

I wish the world could view this video of Clay. What a glorious voice! And is he handsome, or what!? And how about that eye-thingy he does at the end…it’s like he’s singing just to one person — YOU!!!

Love Jordin`s version, she is very young and talented, and a very good backing, But Clays vocals are so amazing and spot on, he really is and was so special. What a voice. He gets my vote again.

Jordan has alot of talent and she deserved to win AI. My vote goes to Clay not just because I am a fan but because he deserves to win, his voice sends chills thru your body. No words to describe his voice.

For Jordon being still very young…she does a really good job….however, Clay’s voice is magic…and he has the maturity to deliver the song the way it should be delivered….

    My vote goes to Clay…

Jordin was really good; but of hands down. (Randy: You really are trying to win this”…..hey, Randy, HE DID WIN!!!!! -and you and the other judges and producers know it!)
We have a term for Clay’s ‘eye look’ on the Clayboard that I just can’t write here!! LOL Those who follow Clay closely know what I mean!!!

    Sep 21, 2007 at 6:10 am

Wha’ happened?? Some of my typed words didn’t show up!! What I meant to day in the first sentence was: “Jordin was really good but Clay won, hands down.”

OMG, seeing and hearing that performance by Clay brings back such memories! The man is amazing!

I didn’t watch AI this past year, but I thought that Jordan also did a great job on this song. She has a great deal of talent and will no doubt go far, but again, no one even comes close to Clay.

He can sing the schnitz out of anything, but this one is exceptional!

  • Trish
    Sep 21, 2007 at 6:31 am

LOVED this performance by Clay. One of my very favorite performances of his on AI2. Jordan did a very nice job especially for one so young. Kudos to both…but Clay wins this one hands down for me.

IMO Jordan shouldn’t even attempted it after the praise Clay got for singing it. Simon’s remarks like that are few and far between.
    Clay by a landslide!

Clay knocked it out of the ball park. There is just no comparison.Clay’s vocal was just magnificent! I thought jordin tried too hard, added too many runs and was off key in several places.

Jordan did a good job! Her talent will take her far!!! But the moment I heard Clay sing this song during AI2 my jaw dropped and my spirit soared!!! Not only did he nail this song he set the bar so high that noone can touch it.. oh yeah those eyes..nuff said!!! “THUD”!!!!!

  • kfc-Canada
    Sep 21, 2007 at 7:05 am

I’ve watched the video of Clay singing this song so often it’s embedded in my soul. It was THE song that convinced me Clay should be the winner of AI2.

Jordin was brave in singing this ‘Clay Aiken’ song…she did a terrific job, too. She changed it up and made it hers and put a lot of feeling into it. I give her kudos.

But..I am voting for Clay…he radiated sex appeal and little-boy innocence both at the same time…and gave a 11/2 minute song everlasting recognition.

Oh My God!! This is one of my all time favorite songs from Clay. I loved it then and I love it now. He sings this song sooo beautifully. Jordin was pretty good also, but somewhere in the back of my mind I remembered Clays version. It was the better of the two.
I also remember almost falling off the couch when they said Josh was singing it next. But to give credit where due Josh did great job on it, was one of his best performances.
For me Clay wins hands down.

I think this is one of Clay’s best performances on Idol, so I have to say I prefer Clay.

  • Lois
    Sep 21, 2007 at 8:34 am

Clay wins again.. Hands down! There is just NO ONE out there that can come close to Clays powerful, beautiful voice.

That said, I love Jordin and actually did vote for her towards the end. She has a gorgeous voice and I believe a wonderful career ahead of her. She is a beautiful and talented young woman! I hope she can go out, stay true to who she is and be a great role model for our young women today. We really need a POSITIVE and respectful young female singer for our youth to look up to!

As a previous writer said.. CLAY is THE VOICE!

Clay IS THERE! I believe Jordin is on her way!

  • Marie
    Sep 21, 2007 at 8:49 am

I voted for Jordin and she has a lot of talent. However, I had forgotten that she sang this song.
Clay wins hands down. There is nobody who can sing like Clay. He’s memorable, in every way possible.

  • Jan
    Sep 21, 2007 at 9:02 am

Jordin has a beautiful voice and does a great job on this song. However, Clay’s version IMO is absolutely fantastic. And that last long note sends chills down my spine! So Clay gets my vote.

  • Pat
    Sep 21, 2007 at 9:13 am

Jordin sang it very well especially for someone as young as she is, but Clay wins hands down. This was the song that won my heart. When Clay sings this song you feel like he is only singing to you. He can work the camera with those eyes like no other.

Who is Jordin Sparks? Sorry, I stopped watching AI after Clay Aiken, the only singer on AI who got me hooked to finish viewing that show. However, good luck to Jordin. I’m sure she’ll have many chances to make it big, too. Clay Aiken gets my vote.

  • Jenna
    Sep 21, 2007 at 10:34 am

Jordin changed it up a bit, and did well, but the background vocals were a little much.

Clay, as always, sang his buns off, and at this point in the show, he had that seductive “look” down pat. It still works today!!

Fantastic voice, magnetic personality, and sinfully sexy!!!

CLAY again by a landslide. His voice is unmatched. Jordin sings good but CLAY’s voice is amazing. Thanks, Jean, for Josh Gracin’s rendition, I thought that was one of Josh’s best performances.

  • Susan
    Sep 21, 2007 at 4:05 pm

In my opinion, there is no comparison. This was my favorite performance of Clay’s on AI2. Jordin hit a few off key notes and Clay didn’t miss a single one. Plus she doesn’t even begin to have the class that Clay brings to the stage with every one of his performances. He is untouchable in this contest. Sorry Jordin. You don’t have a chance against Clay.

  • joann
    Sep 21, 2007 at 4:11 pm

Jordan sounded very good but Clay Aiken–AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No idol winner or runner-up can outsing or sound as AWESOME as Clay…………….

  • Susan
    Sep 21, 2007 at 4:16 pm

I had chills the first time I heard Clay Aiken sing this song. And I still do, every single time.

  • Editha
    Sep 21, 2007 at 4:31 pm

Again, Clay is winning hands down…..Just listen to the quality and clarity of Clay’s voice! he is amazing, so powerful. And that look? someone said “sinfully sexy” yet so innocent looking and devilisly handsome, he’s got the whole package. He can just read the directory book and I’d be happy. His voice is now more matured and control now than when he was on Idol, more beautiful than ever. I went to see him several times this summer on his summer tour and oh boy…..is he ever so handsom. He sings his best in person, I wish people would go see him in concert, he is amazing and he really comanded the stage and his audience, you woud’nt want to take your eyes off him, then it makes you sad when the concert is over, that’s why you want to keep going from concert to the next. That’s how magnificent he is. Jordin’s version is ok, but Clay’s is superb. GO CLAY!!!!!!

  • Kayla
    Sep 21, 2007 at 4:50 pm

    I just love these polls!!
I truly believe one has to be brave to take on a song that has previously been sung by Clay Aiken.
I don’t think anyone in their right mind would say that Jordin did anything but a beautiful job singing this song and she is so young too ! God Bless her .
Clay however, sang the shizzzznet outta the song and belted it around the block & back again !!!! With some of his glory notes , I could go to the store, buy a cake, bake it , ice it , and eat it all in the time he holds those notes !!!!!!!

  • Nita
    Sep 21, 2007 at 5:08 pm

Wow, Simon finally got it right. This is better the the freaking BeeGees. Jordan is a sweetie, but to me she sounded a bit like a nanny goat on this song.

This one is definately a showstopper by Clay. When he looks at you through the camera at the end, and sings just to “you”……….oh honey, I am toast !! You have to scrape me off the floor, and wipe the drool off my foolish smiling, gasping face.

Clay Aiken. His voice is miracle and his eyes are pure light. I loved it.

    Sep 21, 2007 at 6:25 pm

Jordin is beautiful, and has a wonderful career ahead of her. I gave her hours worth of voting to help assure her of the title, and it’s the first season I have picked up the phone since Clay was robbed of the title in 2003. Love ya Jordin honey, but no one can even come close to Clay’s phenomenal voice and performance ability.
He’s already an Icon, and his career is still in it’s infancy. No offense, but it’s CLAY ALL THE WAY!

  • Mari
    Sep 21, 2007 at 8:41 pm

I voted for Jordin this past year. I love her voice, and the way she presents her songs. However, I did NOT care for the ending of the song, all the up and down notes, and it sounded a little off to me. She did a credible job but it was not outstanding in my opinion.
Clay has a very powerful voice-the holding of the note-I have not seen him go off key in any of the examples here- he seems to have perfect pitch.
I feel that Clays performance, though shorter than Jordins-was stronger and a lot easier to listen to. To me, he wins this one.

No contest; my apologies to Jordin. Lovely voice but just no way you can compete with this perfect Clay rendition of a great song. Absolutely flawless. Great stage presence and a vocal you cannot top.

I loved Jordin’s version. I had the feeling she already knew she was picked as that year’s winner. I was surprised listening to Clay’s version, it gave me goose bumps-again. I didn’t expect that. The hair and hand motions look dated now of course. But the boy/man we adored was the one who’s voice broke when he received the compliments afterwards. He truly never knew he was that good.A lot of performers on AI were Good or Very Good but mostly conceited. That bluster carried them to the auditions and to Hollywood and sometimes even to the top 20. Case in point-those twin brothers last year. But Clay just sang his heart out. Literally. He sang in his sleep. The “kid never shut up!” Lol. I liked Jordin, but Melinda was not so pretty and the better voice. Put her against Clay and we’ll talk.

This is the first time I am listening to Jordin’s version of “To Love Somebody” as I didn’t follow AI5. I think she sounds great and did justice to the song.

However, Clay more than delivered the song. Wow! What a performance and what a voice! As Robin Gibb said to Clay, “You have an absolutely fantastic voice and this the way the song should be sung and it is just brilliant”! Yes, pure brilliance indeed!!! Clay certainly has got my vote!!!

  • Juana
    Sep 22, 2007 at 2:57 pm

Well I thought that Jordin did a really good job on the song, but Clay was AMAZiNGLY AMAZiNG! =]

Sorry, but Clay still gets my vote. I loooved the way he sang the song… like he’s singing it to to && omg he is sooo cute too! =D

  • Sherry
    Sep 22, 2007 at 4:27 pm

I love Jordin, she has a great voice and adorable personality. I hope she goes far and is a wonderful, positive role model for young women.

Clay blew the song away and gives me chills every time I see him perform it. One of the BEST AI PERFORMANCES EVER!

  • cookie
    Sep 22, 2007 at 6:41 pm

No pop singer oN AI will ever be able to touch CLAY. And I cringe when I hear him say he is not cool, not sexy and not competitive. Wrong, wrong, and wrong The way he he handled himself on AI; very classy, very cool, very sexy and highly competitive. I guess Clay gets my vote.

  • slg
    Sep 22, 2007 at 11:55 pm

Clay obviously wins hands down on this — as he will continue to do so on any “face-off” with someone singing the same songs he sings. No one has a voice like his. No one has the clarity or the pureness of tone. Jordin did a good job — I think she’s okay, but I don’t like her vibrato — she sounds like a goat to me, sometimes, just like Elliot Yamin. This weird vibrato that baaahs like a goat. At least to my ears. Clay has no such sound. Everything that comes out of his mouth when he’s singing is like liquid silver.

In my opinion, these are two of the better talents to come out of this show and I voted for each of them during their respective competitions. However, I do agree with previous comments that the background voices did overpower Jordin’s voice at times and I didn’t see the urgency in her performance that this song deserves possibly due to her very young age. Therefore, my vote here will go to Clay as he does an amazing job on this song. I do think it would be more fair if the judge’s comments were left in Jordin’s clip or were not included in Clay’s clip as I think their comments may or may not influence new people unfamiliar with these two (is that even possible?)

  • Joanie
    Sep 23, 2007 at 6:29 am

I voted for both during their seasons, and think they’re both amazing, and I do love both of their versions, but I give Clay the edge.

  • Sue
    Sep 23, 2007 at 9:30 am

There is just no other voice quite as smooth and effortless as Clay’s. He is always pitch perfect and the kind of voice you can sit back and enjoy without fear of a bad note. His style was also very enjoyable. I loved Jordan too, but there is no comparison here!!

  • R\oise

    Clay all the way!!!!!!!!

  • Teritunes
    Sep 23, 2007 at 1:50 pm

I had forgotten that Jordin sang that song and in listening to it again, I have to say, she sang it very very good. I had never heard a woman’s version and I think she did the song justice. I think she will have a great career ahead of her and am so very happy she won.
However, I will never forget hearing Clay sing that and how it blew me away, just as it did now hearing it again. So, my vote goes to Clay on this one.

  • cookie
    Sep 23, 2007 at 10:20 pm

As usual when Clay sings its pure, clear and concise. You always know exactly what the song is telling you. I heard Barry Gibbs sing it on American Idol, he could take a lesson from Clay.Clay wins-no contest.

OK webmaster…what ever happened to Clay Aiken day on Friday as was promised??? Last Friday the first thing on the page was a daughtry video and NO MENTION OF CLAY except for the poll Vs. Jordin….

Mariam - Please read the complete details that were listed several days ago. Clay Aiken Day will be every Friday starting THIS Friday. I made the Fan Day assignment announcements halfway through next week and thought it was best to wait until Monday so that they could all have a fair number of days.

    HI Jeanne,

    Just curious.

I see so many of the Idols tour dates posted on your site which is great! Yet, Clay just finished a fantastic tour from coast to coast and I did not see one mention of his tour or any of the tour dates prior to the tour beginning. Any reason why?

    Just wondering.

    Thanks!

Okay goes without saying, I voted for Clay. Since I first passed the TV and heard this man sing, I stopped and said “OMG what a voice this kid has!” I have seen some of the most incredible performers in the world in concert..The Beatles (okay this dates me), Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, Smokey, Dave Matthews, Tom Jones, Bill Joel, Earth Wind & Fire, Gladys Knight…to name just a few, but honestly Clay Aiken’s stage presence and voice has blown me away more than any other and that is saying a lot just by this list. Honestly I have never been taken by a voice and a personalty like him! Take a moment learn about him and listen to his passonate voice and you will be blown away!

Needless to say I have been open to many entertainers but none like him. Have seen him in concert over 30 times and have never been disappointed.. a true entertainer and we have just begun to see what he will do..I promise!

Aliricaba - I’m a little confused by your question. Clay has an entire page dedicated to his tour.

    http://www.idolstalker.com/clay-aiken-tour-dates/

I took over this site a few months ago. I’m doing the best I can. Since this is an international Idol site, it’s lame that there is only one page dedicated to tour dates that I have had time to create and that would be Mr. Clay Aiken’s page. It is frustrating that I’m in Canada and American Idol dominates this site and Clay gets a huge chunk of attention but I’m always being questioned about why he doesn’t have more.

If you have more dates to add, feel free to email me but I can’t turn this into a Clay site which is what I feel like it’s becoming. :)

Hi Jeanne. I’d love to have a Kalan Porter day. He’s on tour right night as I’m sure you know and it would be nice for more people to see him since he really just came back with his new single.

    Jeane,

My apologies. I did not know where to look here for the page. I guess I was looking in the wrong places. I did not mean to imply Clay was not getting enough attention here.

    Thank-you for the link.

Lisa - I agree. For now, Wednesday will be “International Idols” Day with Canadian Idol Day being separate. Kalan will get some love there. We need to round up enough fans to get it going!

Mariam - you’re hilarious! I’m glad you are here every day :)

Aliricaba -You Clay fans crack me up. I love you guys. If I’m in my office laughing, my family knows that I’m probably reading something a Clay fan wrote, lol.

If only everyone could be loved as much as you guys love Clay!

    Jeanne,

Yes, we Clay fans do love him! He is such a wonderful artist!

For my part personally, my support for him and his causes is because in the midst of so much accepted mediocre talent out there, this man with incredible talent I truly want to see around in the industry for as long as he wants to be.

Everyone in our family including my punk rocker daughter and her guitar weilding punk rocker boyfriend enjoys Clay and appreciates his talent!

When Clay was made, the mold truly was broken.

Jordin did a good job in singing this song. Clay did a great job singing this song! Even the Gibb brother said what a fantastic job Clay did and that was the way the song should be sung. Clay nailed this song (and me) and made it his own. I just wish I could be Clay’s own. Clay is sexy, sultry and seductive.

I dont care how many people like or dislike Clay Aiken, there will never be anyone as good as him on that show again. Unless of course we get really, really lucky. He’s just such a good singer and performer. All he ever had to do was come out on that stage and plant his feet a little bit apart and let that voice do the rest. This was one of his best.

    Anonymous,

    Right on!

That is what makes him the great vocalist and artist he is. He does not even need music! He needs no overproduction, flashing lights or half naked dancers!

Just the man and his voice. This was never so evident as in this last tour when he sang his new original song, for which he wrote the lyrics, “Lover All Alone” just with the accompaniment of a cello. It was absolutely beautiful!

    Clay all the way!

Jeanne-I think you’ve been doing a terrific job with IdolStalker. Its nice to get info about Canadian Idol. I didn’t know anything about it until I started reading your info. Also any face off with Clay is unfair, not because we love him so much, but because he’s too talented. Although I would Love to see an “All IS Well” face-off - if anyone has the nerve to go up against Clay on that one.

I loved Jordan and I think she has a beautiful, powerful voice, but, Ahhh here comes the but, no one will ever top Clay on this one! Even Simon told him it was the best performance he had ever heard, on ANY idol.
