Ouch! It’s curtains for Idol: The Musical. Here’s the news:

After two casts and considerable press coverage, producer Todd Ellis has decided to close Idol: The Musical.

The show began performances on Wednesday, July 5th with the Syracuse cast at the 45th Street Theatre (354 West 45th Street).

The show was then re-cast in New York to begin previews anew on Wednesday, August 1st; after which it opened officially on Sunday, August 12th.

A statement from Mr. Ellis was sent via e-mail and reads:

“Todd Ellis, the producer of “IDOL:The Musical,” has chosen to close the show due to a lack of advance ticket sales, a lack of positive feedback from audience members and critics, and a lack of sustainable financial resources.”

Idol: The Musical ran a total of 47 previews and one regular performance, which was Opening Night.
